Had a weird dream last night. Bad dream. Of the stalker-probably-serial-killer variety. A whole heap of my clothes got stolen at some point, presumably by him, but illogically I was able to go pick them up from... I don't remember if it was a store or a lost-and-found type deal, but the person there was like O.o; at the number of clothes I was picking up. And I explained, and stuff, and... yeah. Part of my dream involved kanji. Which was WRONG, I was like, that's not bad, that's ice.

And when I woke up, I went, that's not ice, that's east!

But anyway. Now we move on to me being angry about shonky trading practices!

Rage! Hulk SMASH! )

While I've got the rant tag attached, the ACT civil union laws got disallowed by the Federal Government today. Bastards. Last hope is the Senate. We'd need all of Labour, all of the Greens, and 2 Liberals to cross the floor. We've got 1 Liberal crossing the floor and chances are that we'll get all of Labour and the Green. So... we'll see, I suppose.

And now, for the requisite video game babble.

If nothing else, you can point and laugh at my Tower of Druaga-related pain )

Whoos 2 am. More me being a dork about Sukisyo with Mari and Becky! You should read if only for the insight into Mari and my relationship, ie the bit where she throws pencil cases at my head. ... *DUCKS*

And this is how you throw a plate when your partner comes home late drunk! )

LE SPAM~.

~The other day, about my brother coming to stay~

Mum: Well why didn't he tell ME?
Dad: *being obnoxious on purpose* Eh, he told the head of the house, that's all that's necessary.
Me: *with Ebony on lap* Oh, did he tell you he was coming, Ebony?
Dad: Ebony's the bum of the house.
Me: Rohan's going to replace her, though.
Dad: You hear that, Ebony? A bigger bum than you is coming!

~Random out of context gaming quote~

"AUGH! STOP KICKING ME, YOU BASTARD!"

Probably funnier if you could actually see this huge dragon thing kicking me in the shins. It was bizarre. But hey, I'M amused.

~Just then, whilst playing Sukisyo~

"Is it just me, or are all these options EXACTLY THE SAME?

絶対ã«è¦‹ã¤ã‘ã ã™ (will definitely locate him)
死んã§ã‚‚見ã¤ã‘ã¦ã‚„ã‚‹ (will find him even if it kills me)
å¿…ãšæŽ¢ã—出㙠(will look for him without fail)

I have the choice to find Matsuri, find Matsuri, or look for Matsuri!"

On a sidenote, I HAVE NOT STARTED STUDYING FOR APL YET. ahahahaha. It's just so hard to care. eeeeh.

... And on a more serious topic, I haven't mentioned the threat to override ACT civil union laws yet because I'm not quite sure what to say. I'm exceptionally angry, not only at the government attitude towards gay rights, but also at the federal system. Territory laws can be overridden by executive action. If we were a State and this was taken to court, it's very unlikely that the Government would win. John Howard has DEFINED marriage as being between a man and a woman. Therefore, by DEFINITION, a civil union is not a marriage. It says as much in the civil unions Act. And we're never going to get the part of the Constitution that allows the Commonwealth government to can Territory laws they don't like changed, because quite simply, the States don't care.

Anyway, enough rant from me, I have an exam on all this federalism crap in a week's time and I don't really want to think about it. *sweatdrop*

Completely randomly, last night I had a dream involving making a movie that involved a huge egg and a phoenix and the apolocalypse. Also I was a vampire, and this guy was trying to kill me, and he was like "Are you protecting [whoever it was who turned me into a vampire] again?" and I was like, hah, that bastard, you've gotta be joking. Pleeeeeeeeeease don't kill me! I don't bite anyone! Look, my fangs aren't even sharp enough! And he was spraying me with holy water, which hurt, and I was trying to use my diabetic blood pricker thing to mingle our blood to turn him into a vampire to save myself. It was very silly. I think I'd almost persuaded him not to kill me by the time I woke up, though.

I have cleared my fifty email backlog! I have finally posted all those drabbles plus directory thereof to [livejournal.com profile] insaneidiot! I have CLOTHES THAT FIT.

Actually, to elaborate on that last point, I went shopping with my mother today 'cause she got sick of me wearing these maroon velour pants, and this morning she was like, "WHERE ARE ALL YOUR OTHER PANTS?"

Me: They fall down!
Mum: ALL of them?
Me: YES. These have a drawstring, so they stay up!

This was explained when I got 3 new pairs of cord pants in black, dark green and mauve... in size 12. Note most of my pants are size 16. Some are size 14. YEAH. I also have 5 new tops and a new pair of earrings.

In light of all the above:

Me for teh win! :D :D :D

Also, A Claim of Action is a very good movie about personal injury law (based on a true story), although it makes me incredibly angry and frustrated because, happy ending or not, American system or not, it says a lot of horrible things about the legal system. Things which are true, and which apply in Australia too.

Now, back to my Tales of Destiny fic! Do you know how hard it is to catch a character's voice when you're writing in a different language to which the character speaks? I'm going to have to edit this more than usual. *ponders*

[livejournal.com profile] sanguia has alerted me to something incredibly terrifying, particularly to those of you who live in the UK but to everyone who cares about democracy at all.

What is so terrifying? The Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill that has been introduced into the British Parliament. If passed, it would allow ministers to independently amend or enact legislation without it going through either House. Yes, that's right, unilateral legislation. No debating, no votes, nothing. There are some restrictions, but these appear to be very minor and there is nothing preventing the Government from amending the proposed legislation itself with these new powers.

Now, I could rant here about how this undermines the principles of the common law-- which Australia inherited from England-- and about how the English Constitution lacks the safeguards of Australia or America or Canada because they TRUSTED their Parliaments to reflect the interests of the people and due to their history the framers of the English constitution valued Parliamentary supremacy and put less checks than other countries have. However, I'm not an expert on Constitutional law, especially not in England. I'm only studying the basics now, focussing on Australia. So instead, I will give you links that Eugenie gave me explaining what it is, why this is so frightening, etc.

This is the Bill itself: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmbills/111/06111.1-4.html
This LJ entry gives an overview, involving a comparison to Hitler's rise in power: http://oldmotherchaos.livejournal.com/65547.html
This is a letter from a number of Law professors from Cambridge: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,59-2042165,00.html
This article will give an idea of the current status of the Bill and its chances of passing: http://bill111.wordpress.com/
Another article discussing the effect of this kind of power on democracy: http://www.hoojum.com/LARRB/LARRB.html

I don't really know what anyone can do. I don't know enough about how these things work in England. I know that the House of Lords cannot strike down legislation on the grounds of unconstitutionality, but the EU Court has enforceable jurisdiction. If you're English, write letters to your local MP. If nothing else:

PLEASE. PASS THIS ON.

This issue is not getting the media attention it should. Do you want this kind of thing to go unnoticed? If we can do nothing else, at least we can make sure this gross undermining of democracy and human rights doesn't pass right under our noses.

I have a lecture at 8 on Thursday morning. Explanation of this, complete with bad pun where I call Law's mother a whore:

You know what, Law? Your mama is a HOR! )

There will possibly be picspam later. The camera works now, so there's photos from 6 months ago. And some from before then I never spammed. Of fat possums and Tasmanian Devils, amongst other things. *shrug*

There is something wrong with the electrical circuit in my room. Seriously, none of my appliances turn on except the light-- no lamps, no stereo, no nothing. Which meant that, being disgustingly prone to insomnia and even more so without music, I didn't get to sleep until 2 hours after going to bed. Uuuuuuugh. I went to bed at 2, which would have been fine, but because my body and my electricity suck, that means I didn't get to sleep until 4. Still, 5 hours isn't that bad. I guess. I mean, I survived most of last semester on 5-7... (how? WHY? was I insane? don't answer that.)

Anyway, in the trend of wasting time when I should be finishing my APL reading and studying for my Japanese Grammar quiz, I got to uni at 10 and walked into the city to buy blank DVDs. Sony -R. I hope they don't burn out when playing KHII like my other ones. XD; But the other objective of that trip into the city was to get a psone memory card, as I have filled all 3 of the ones I have already. HAH, NICE TRY, ME. None in EB-- they couldn't even order them-- none in JBs, and they didn't even have them second hand at Revolution. So that's left me staring at a credit card application form from the bank on campus, because the only option now seems to be the internet, and I need a credit card to order stuff off the internet.

This is complicated and stupid! ALL I WANT IS A MEMORY CARD.

Does it strike anyone else as dumb that PSIIs are marketed as playing PSone games and soon you won't even be able to save said games? It just seems to defeat the point, if you ask me. "Yes, you CAN play PSone games! ... But you can't save them. Sorry? :D?"

*headdesk* Maybe I'll buy 3 memory cards. Because if they're going to completely wink out of existence, I'd like to stock up now while I still have the chance.

If, you know. They even still exist on the internet. ;_;

If I ever want to finish my reading, I really ought to stop arguing with my textbook.

No, really, I'm SERIOUS! It's getting ridiculous! Aside from the usual "What crack are you smoking? THAT COMMA DOES NOT GO THERE!" variety, I started an argument with my parents of whether or not 'an historical' is still grammatically correct (wherein my stance was that it's no longer grammatical because the silent h is no longer silent, dad's position was that an historical is still okay, and mum tried to claim that you can say 'an humble' at which point dad and I BOTH objected), complained that inadequate single mothers shouldn't be listed separately from inadequate child rearing (in response to which my mother told me to shut up and do the damn reading), and took a moment to wonder if the 'dessert' in 'just desserts' is derived from 'deserve' and what percentage one would begin to calculate 'most'. For example: is over 50% 'most'?

Also, I kept getting distracted by formulating my own stance on the effectiveness of the various aims of crime and the causes of crime, and making strangled noises when the "free will vs determinism" argument and such popped up because I did it in year 10 Religion and Philosophy.

I think breaking the 3 months of mental inactivity is making me more opinionated and obnoxious than usual. *cough*

Anyway, didn't see Brokeback Mountain last night cause the ticket cue in the Manuka cinema was so long it had started by the time we got to the front. Saw Syriana instead. It's... long and confusing. Any longer would have been too long and I think I didn't really start to understand what was going on until the second half. I don't regret seeing it, but I will say this:

It will CRUSH YOUR SOUL. It has utterly DECIMATED my faith in the human race. No faith left. Gone! Kaput!

For those who don't know, it's about America and the Middle East and oil and religious extremists and assassination and politics and corruption. Yeah.
