Jan. 30th, 2004 11:35 amOkay, so I keep telling myself that one of these days I am actually going to do a long and vaguely intelligent post, and it just doesn't seem to be happening. So THEN I try to be realistic, and say, okay, how about just a long post?
That hasn't happened yet either. I have this theory that long posts are kind of like a piece of art in some ways. Except not, for obvious reasons. I just meant that you don't know whether it's going to turn out to be a long post (er. or a masterpiece.) until you've actually finished it. Also: you can't force one. They just happen sometimes, to Special People.
They used to happen to me frequently, actually, but I'm pretty sure they weren't particularly intellectual. So it probably all balances out, in the end.
Why am I rambling about nothing, anyway? Gah, I don't know. I was just thinking maybe I should attempt to make this longer and mildly informative for a change from recently instead of spamming LJ with multiple short posts.
So it's almost the end of the holidays, and what have I done? Well, whenever I ask myself that question I always feel like yelling "NOTHING!" and tearing out my hair and running in circles. Avoiding looking at my desk is also a favourite. *shifty look AWAY from explosion of mess* What, I was supposed to clean that up? Me? Are you kidding? Yes, I KNOW that there is still stuff from year 4 there... well, it's not like I ever use it!
*cough* Er, yes. Back to what I was saying. So, what have I done? I have reorganised my wardrobe, for one thing, which... seriously. No mean feat. I didn't finish until about 4:30 am on the (morning?) I did that, and I don't know what time I started, but I'm pretty sure it was before 1.
What else? Went on an epic month-long vacation, but I'm not so sure if that counts as doing something or resolutely ignoring doing something, so there you go. It is, however, a good talking point:
Random: So, what did you do in the Holidays?
Me: Um. Well, I went to Batemans Bay for a weekend. Then I came back for 2 weeks, during which I went to the Yr 10 formal and had both my and Fahye's seperate birthday parties. Then I went to Sydney for a week to stay with my siblings. Then I drove around Tasmania for two weeks. Then I went BACK to Sydney for another 4 days. Then I came home for three days, then I went to Tuross for a week with Victoria's family.
Random: O_O
I do usually condense it to "sydney, tasmania, sydney, tuross!" though. *grin*
On the writing front, do not feel like quite so much of a lazy sloth as I generally do by the end of holidays. Have, in fact, written about 40 000 words. 29 000 of those were on the Christmas fics, then there was about 8000 words of birthday fics, and... probably over 40 000 words, actually, because I'm sure I wrote more than 3000 on other stories. *checks*
O_O Um, ok. So that's over 10 000 words on other stories, which means almost 50 000 words. Wow. Go me. And then there are all the commentaries I've done, which aren't counted in that. And I did at least write a chapter plan for my new story, even if I'm only about halfway through the first chapter. ^^;
So, not so much on the sloth with the writing, for once, which is a nice change. At any rate, the Christmas insanity was An Achievement; must try to remember that. Furthermore, the entirety of Heavenly Chaos (... I need a new name. Don't I. *shudder*) is over 50 000 words now, so w00t.
On the drawing front, HAVE been somewhat lazier. However, did do drawings for Frar's birthday, and did do some drawing in Tasmania to figure out character designs of minor characters in my new story as they popped up in the chapter plans. On top of that, though, my cousin Alyssa has a birthday coming up, and she has asked me to draw her a picture for her birthday and post it to Brisbane, and I said sure. She said she wanted a girl with straight to ringlets hair and a celtic-style dress with the colours pink, yellow, and purple so it would match her room, because she wanted to put it up on the wall and point to it and say "this is what my talented cousin drew!"
... feel very touched. Anyway, I started the draft of it, which maybe I'd want to keep as the final if only it wasn't on rough paper, which I only started DRAWING on because we'd run out of GOOD paper. Dad brought some more home, though, so shall remedy that soon.
On the going-back-to-school front, however, am less than useless. Haven't put paper in my new folders, haven't labelled anything, haven't packed my pencil case, haven't moved crap out of old folders, have not, in fact, done anything. Except go back-to-school shopping, during which I ran into Leenah and traded LJ names with her. Did not know she had an LJ, and so am pleasantly surprised! That was the one ray of light in a day of gloom, though. Big W had rearranged YET AGAIN for like the fourth time in the last 6 months, so couldn't find anything. Discovered that they did not, in fact, even HAVE steel-tip pens any more. Was most miffed, even the cuteness of the boy near the basket and the boy at the counter wasn't quite enough to mollify me... good GOD Zidane's theme is annoying! *skips*... So I had to go down to the Newsagents. I ended up buying four pens of different colours and different types, and it cost me $20.75. For pens? 4 of them? Dude, not cool. It was mum's money, not mine, but... well, actually the 75c was mine. *grin*
Then ran into Leenah, then off to shoe shopping. *groan* I hate shopping for school shoes. I can never get the ones I like because I have huge monster feet which are stupid. So I had to try on these stupid-looking ones, which made me somewhat grumpy and sulky. Did I ever claim to be mature? Anyway, before mum bought them she sent me away to my hair appointment because I was going to be late. When I saw her again later, apparently she had decided not to buy them because there were a pair of men shoes that were SHINY and had bigger heels.
You know, they actually did have bigger heels. *snerk*
So we were going to go see Love Actually, but the time was wrong in the paper and it started earlier than we thought. So instead, we looked for Post-Captain, sequal to Master and Commander, for my book for a good report. Then we went and tried on the OTHER pair of shoes, and guess what? I have men's school shoes. That's so sad, somehow. But they really were prettier than the girl's pair. Eh. *shrug*
Post-Captain was nowhere to be found in Woden, but that was okay, because mum combed Civic in search of it yesterday. And I have it now. *smug*
My most triumphantly useless action in my back-to-schooling, however, is my desk. Desk, what desk? Oh, THAT desk. I thought that was a storage unit... Seriously, I never really use it. Most of my schoolwork gets done on the computer or in the kitchen. As a result, my desk looks like the Apocalypse, and LITERALLY has crap from when I was in year four. I ought to know, that's about as far into cleaning it I got before the task became too daunting and I retreated.
However, I have been more successful on the translating front, which... yeah, I know I'm a nerd. Pointing out that I enjoy Japanese will only increase this proof. ^^; It's going quite well, though, and for once my Japanese skills are actually IMPROVING over the summer holidays, rather than rusting like a very rusty thing. I think once I came back from holidays and was all,
Me: "Dog. Yes. I remember the word for that, it was.... *very long silence*"
Classmate: *shrug*
Me: "... inu?"
Heidi-sensei: "You girls didn't do anything over the holiday, did you."
Us: *furtive guilty looks*
Not so this time! Er, I hope. Also, haven't watched my Spirited Away DVD yet, but it makes me happy just by being there, so.
You know, the only thing I've done this morning is update LJ... I am going to go away, pack to go to Mari's, get changed, and return.
~*~
Ok, back. As I'm just skipping this song due to the fact that I am now sick of it, it reminds me of when I was writing the new chapters of A Mirror To Life, AKA Heavenly Chaos and the Bucket of Angst. (Eugenie, I believe I have you to credit stealing the title Harry Potter and the Bucket of Angst from?) Every time a happy song came on it broke the flow and I got annoyed and had to skip it. *rolls eyes*
So, am now packed. Yes, I'm going to
amayonolune's to sleepover tonight- it'll be the first time I've seen her since the beginning of the holidays, when she went to Japan.
OMG HEARTATTACK. Ebony is in my lap; just then she started craning her neck to look at something, and I was all, "what is it, a cat?" Then I looked down and discovered she was watching a huge spider walking past me. O_O *dies* I have arachnophobia! *whimper*
Spider is dead now. Good.
... Busty Justy song. Am skipping now.
So, feel like playing mah new guitar, but am a bit confused about the easiness of the songs in the beatles book dad gave me. Also, never know when to strum and when to pick, because as a rule strumming almost ALWAYS sounds stupid.
Stayed up until VERY late (read: 3 am) talking to
sanguia last night this morning. Am an idiot; had to get up at about 10 today. However, was worth it, simply because I love talking to my crazy best friend. *grin* We're crazy together!
Also feel urge to play video games, but the concept is a bit daunting. This, I suppose, is the downside to owning about 200 games. Hm. Also, it's yet another awful side-effect to losing all one's GBA save-files. Have, however, been playing FF2. Must say that the biggest "WTF?" moment so far is when I walked into a room of giant beavers in the middle of a dungeon. THAT was weird. Man, you gotta love FF2.
Ji and I have an AU Vic/Ade RP going on over AIM at the moment. It's up to its fourth session, and isn't finished yet. It is, I believe, nostalgia over that time in the RP where EVERYONE thought they were sleeping together (Ponder, Tomjon, Ben, Ade's family...) and. Um. They actually weren't. But they were GOING to- we just never got around to it. Which is just the saddest thing ever, hence: log. At least I'm sort of catching up on the RP. ^^; It does help that Ade wouldn't know what was going on either...
In other news, had work last night, and it turned out that I was helping train the new girl. Cool, company. It occurred to me at about 7 pm, halfway through the shift, that I had neglected to eat breakfast or lunch and in fact had eaten a total of nectarine, 1, and splitz icecream, 1. Also, that I wouldn't get to eat dinner until about 10 pm. However, wasn't OVERLY hungry and there was nothing to eat and we were really busy anyway, so I just forgot about it.
That reminds me. I haven't eaten breakfast.
Also, have discovered how much you've-turned-17 payrise was; I now get $46 for four hours, which is a $10 rise. Woot! Which means the Christmas bonus was $18. Rock, man.
That... that reminds me of something else. I still haven't had the Christmas chocolate Dr Stephens gave me. ^^;
You know what happened at work last night, though? Mum rang up at maybe 8 (Corinna answered the phone) to ask me about Meningacockle C vaccine.
"So I rang the vaccine hotline and they said you got it at your GP..."
"Yes mum, I know. I WORK at a doctor's office, remember?"
... the point, though, is that I thought I'd escape that vaccine, because my paranoid mother made me get the injection for all strains of Meningacockle in one a year and a half ago when I started work. Unfortunately for ME, that was not permanent. Had to book myself an appointment for Saturday. Do you know how pathetic it feels to book your own doctor's appointment? I mean, actually typing it in the computer yourself? It feels WEIRD. And I know I'm going to be absent-mindedly cleaning up the magazines in the waiting room before my appointment, too, because that's what ALWAYS happens. @_@
Um. I think I have now exhausted all topics of interest. That's nice.
You know, I think this counts as a long post. Not a particularly intellectual one, but long, nonetheless.

And rp is very, very simple. And fun. Even if I do get twinges of conscience at making Skazz and Andre sleeping together while drunk.
