Of specific interest to Ji.
Apr. 12th, 2004 01:48 amJiiiiii! Have found something that will be of great interest and possible use to you whilst playing the Discworld Noir game!
It mentions all the names of Hwel's 8 great tragedies! And being the wonderful person I am, I wrote them all down and figured out which plays they were from the comments made about the plays. So here you go:
Titus Diplodicus: Titus Andronicus
The Happy Prince of Copperhaven: Hamlet
The Tyrant: Julius Caesar
The Leering King: King Lear
Antilogy and Cleph-ptah-re: Anthony and Cleopatra
Kensington: I think it's Othello.
Trochilus and Cresylic: Romeo and Juliet, but in this version he gets dragged through the streets until he dies, or something, and she gets to live.
The King of Ankh: That's the one in Wyrd Sisters. So it's Macbeth.
Is that at all helpful?

I agree, Trochilus and Cresylic has to be Troilus and Cressida, which is a Comedy, just because of the name. But if it were Romeo and Juliet it could be like West Side Story. Where Maria lives. MumblemumblefuckingMariamumble.
Also: I love you.

~POSSIBLE DISCWORLD NOIR SPOILERS~
It didn't say anything much about the King of Ankh except the the main character lives. The Happy Prince of Copperhaven, all it says is that the main character is poisoned. Antilogy and Cleph-ptah-re, he is stabbed, she kills herself with asp. The Tyrant, a- I think it's a king- gets stabbed in the back repeatedly. The one which we're not sure about, the guy gets killed by being dragged through the street after a cart, the girl lives. Titus Diplodicus is a really gruesome one where Titus dismembers people and- eats them? I think. Kensington gets strangled by his wife. The Leering King has his eyes gouged out.
Now, I'm not sure if these next bits are book canon, but they ARE game canon:
- there is a leather-bound copy of Hwel's plays; Hwel is well-known in AM. Nobby offers Lewton a copy of this set of plays when he's playing Good Cop.
- the tragedies are all based on Discworld history, occurring all at around the same time in an octagonal pattern around the Circle Sea. I THINK I could find out which ones are in which countries.
- there is an actor at the Dysk called Privetier, and he is a complete arsy moron
- there are candles in coloured glass hung in strings from the roof of the Dysk
- Hwel has a play called Helen of Tsort, where the goddess Errata is responsible for the Tsortean Wars
- there is a force of pure evil lying under the site of the Dysk. Er. Feel free to ignore that one.
