Jiiiiii! Have found something that will be of great interest and possible use to you whilst playing the Discworld Noir game!

It mentions all the names of Hwel's 8 great tragedies! And being the wonderful person I am, I wrote them all down and figured out which plays they were from the comments made about the plays. So here you go:

Titus Diplodicus: Titus Andronicus
The Happy Prince of Copperhaven: Hamlet
The Tyrant: Julius Caesar
The Leering King: King Lear
Antilogy and Cleph-ptah-re: Anthony and Cleopatra
Kensington: I think it's Othello.
Trochilus and Cresylic: Romeo and Juliet, but in this version he gets dragged through the streets until he dies, or something, and she gets to live.
The King of Ankh: That's the one in Wyrd Sisters. So it's Macbeth.

Is that at all helpful?

"Trochilus and Cresylic" is "Troilus and Cressida", shirley?

Huh, it wasn't on the list of Shakesperean tragedies...
Stupid list of tragedies. ^^;

No-o, I think "The King of Ankh" is actually one of the histories. Y'know. Henry [number here.] The number in question being 5. I think. Isn't that his "Brothers! Blah blah blah die and you're my brother be a coward and I shun you forever" speech? I'm pretty sure.

But: Omghourrah! HOURRAH! Here's one for the memory banks, kids.

I agree, Trochilus and Cresylic has to be Troilus and Cressida, which is a Comedy, just because of the name. But if it were Romeo and Juliet it could be like West Side Story. Where Maria lives. MumblemumblefuckingMariamumble.

Also: I love you.

Hm, but it called them the 8 great tragedies... maybe it's a cross between Thingy and Romeo and Juliet?

I can give you more info on each of them, if you want.

Huh, I don't know... maybe. Know nothing about that Shakesperean play. ^^;

~POSSIBLE DISCWORLD NOIR SPOILERS~

It didn't say anything much about the King of Ankh except the the main character lives. The Happy Prince of Copperhaven, all it says is that the main character is poisoned. Antilogy and Cleph-ptah-re, he is stabbed, she kills herself with asp. The Tyrant, a- I think it's a king- gets stabbed in the back repeatedly. The one which we're not sure about, the guy gets killed by being dragged through the street after a cart, the girl lives. Titus Diplodicus is a really gruesome one where Titus dismembers people and- eats them? I think. Kensington gets strangled by his wife. The Leering King has his eyes gouged out.

Now, I'm not sure if these next bits are book canon, but they ARE game canon:
- there is a leather-bound copy of Hwel's plays; Hwel is well-known in AM. Nobby offers Lewton a copy of this set of plays when he's playing Good Cop.
- the tragedies are all based on Discworld history, occurring all at around the same time in an octagonal pattern around the Circle Sea. I THINK I could find out which ones are in which countries.
- there is an actor at the Dysk called Privetier, and he is a complete arsy moron
- there are candles in coloured glass hung in strings from the roof of the Dysk
- Hwel has a play called Helen of Tsort, where the goddess Errata is responsible for the Tsortean Wars
- there is a force of pure evil lying under the site of the Dysk. Er. Feel free to ignore that one.

Kind of more evil than that- more like Dungeons of Dimensions, godly being of pure evil by the name of Nylonethatap wot will destroy everything, kind of evil. *grin* Still, I'm sure that will result in ghostly harmonica players...

YES

YOU SHOULD COLLECT IT ALL

IN A DORKY NOTEBOOK

AND CHERISH IT

IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH

ETC

Hee! There was other stuff, too, though that's all the Dysk-specific-

Oh wait. Also, the Dysk is in the centre of Ankh-Morpork.

Nearly 5 AM. Off to Berkeley in, like, two or three hours. Owww.

I did. Except for the bugs and small children and Korean TV. Did you?
