Time for the big rambly entry!
Aug. 16th, 2004 10:37 pmOkay, starting at Saturday! Got up in the late morning to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremony, which was GORGEOUS. Well, aside from the fact that Australia's outfit was fucking HIDEOUS. It was so funny, they were HORRIBLE! How come the Western world doesn't have national dress, huh? All the countries with national dress looked beautiful, and everyone else was either eye-burning or just... boring.
Anyway, that afternoon I went to visit my new baby cousin-once-removed in hospital- he was born on Thursday at 6.5 pounds, and he's so little and cute. My cousing Kathleen will make a good mother, I think- she's always loved kids. She and the father looked really happy, it was so sweet. And my mother is over the moon at the prospect of having another baby to dote over- the last one was my cousin Frannie about eight or nine years ago. Though for some reason, a newborn means it's open season on one's youngest child- it was apparently declared "Mock Siobhan" day while I wasn't looking, because mum took every available opportunity to compare baby!me to AJ (Andrew James), and dad joined in.
"Aw, he looks just like you did." "... thanks, mum."
"Yeah, she was terrible. Kept me up to 4am every day!" "... thanks, mum."
... and so on.
And so anyway, when we got home Marie had popped over for a visit (Marie, not Mari- it's pronounced the same way, but Marie is my aunt and Mari is my girlfriend. It makes for a lot of confusion conversation-wise.) and she ended up measuring me for the costume for my dance concert.
Saturday night was, of course, Saz's karaoke party. Which was understandably gloriously insane, and involves far too many tales for me to regale you with here. (I'm lazy, so sue me.) Several of which are rather incriminating, anyway. Though I will make brief mention of the part where I had to dance at Eugenie to Slave 4 U. Saz handed me a glass of wine for courage right before hand. I believe there are some blackmail photos floating around somewhere. *dead kthxbai*
Chrissie and I also proved that the karaoke thing scores by how loud and constantly you sing rather than the notes you hit by putting on a song we didn't know and rapping our way through it going "Blah blah BLAH, blah blah blah BLAH!" It was quite amazing that we managed to stay in sync the whole time, actually. Whichever way, we got 99/100. XD
The return of the Olympics brought with it the return of The Dream, which won't make much sense to non-Aussies, but it's basically an hour-long segment at the end of every day of the Olympicsmocking recapping the day's events, hosted by two of our most famous comedians. And it is HILARIOUS. Very... unique perspective. *giggle*
Sunday involved waking up, watching some Olympics (I sense a common theme here), and then working through a practice test in preparation for my maths test today. I did the test, and discovered I couldn't remember anything from the beginning of the term.
Shit, huh?
So, having the wonderful work ethic I do, I immediately meandered up the other end of the house to watch gymnastics. I'll study after, I assured myself. Then I wrote X fic. Then I translated more of that Japanese yaoi manga and started talking on MSN, and....
Okay, I admit it, the maths never happened. *wince*
In concession towards the test though, I went to bed early (at 12:20), and I studied during my frees. For all the good it did me- that test was not Good In The Eyes Of OG. *scowl*
- My mother just informed me that today is being called Pythagoras Day in Athens. The irony, the irony, it burns!
Anyway, English WAS good, to make a contrast. We basically spent another lesson discussing the Gay. *happy sigh* I love my class. Hopefully I'll manage to work some gay into my oral- free choice, so shouldn't be too much of a problem there.
On the maths front, I was at maths coaching this afternoon and the coaches were trying to figure out a really sadistic problem from a year 10 maths assignment (I think it was one of ours- the font and layout looked suspiciously familiar). Michelle got a negative value for the height of the banana, and as I had nothing to do, having had a test today, I joined in. I got an answer, which MIGHT be right, but who the hell knows?
You need to see it to believe it, I swear. For your viewing pleasure:
"A rope hanging over a fence has the same length on either side and weighs one-third of a pound per foot. On one end hangs an ape holding a banana, and on the other end a weight equal to the weight of the ape. The banana two ounces per inch. The rope is as long as the age of the ape, and the weight of the ape (in ounces) is as much as the age of the ape's mother. The combined ages of the ape and mother are thirty years. Half the weight of the ape plus the weight of the banana is one-fourth as much as the weight of the weight itself and weight of the rope. The ape's mother is half as old as the ape will be when it is three times as old as the mother was when she was half as old as the ape will be when it is as old as its mother was when she was one-third as old as the ape was when it was as old as its mother was when she was three times as old as the ape was when it was one-fourth as old as it is now. How long is the banana?"
You're all going "... the HELL?" now, aren't you? It's that never-ending sentence. Oo;
In other news:
And now, the ever present meme!
If you want me to interview you--post a comment that simply says, "Interview me." I'll respond with questions for you to take back to your own journal and answer as a post. Of course, they'll be different for each person since this is an interview and not a general survey. At the bottom of your post, after answering the Interviewer's questions, you ask if anyone wants to be interviewed.
(Added by Fahye and left in by me - to make it easier all 'round, you could ask me some questions and just tell me if you want me to return the favour. Personally, I could keep this up all night. Throw your interviews at me, yo!)
1) What pairings (one original, one fandom) do you absolutely adore writing, and why?
Heh, fandom questions. I love these. Okay, first of all, original- Uriel/Cassiel from my angel series. I enjoy getting into the head of the characters- like, ALL my characters are fucked up (because I'm just that nice), but there's something about their particular personal issues and the way they interact that I just find really fun to write. It's kind of hard to call, though, because Luce/Yizriel and Bel/Sammy are favourites too.
As for fandom... Seishirou/Subaru. Hands DOWN. I've never had another OTP that's inspired me to write that much, I swear. I'm ridiculously attached to them- I ship them so much, and depending on my mood I can either write gratuitous angst or attempt to figure out a way to give them a happy ending. That, or go completely cracktastic. *g* Besides which, I find it really to identify with X!Subaru. Which is. Um. Kind of bad, given how crazy-angsty-masochistic he is, but... let's move on.
2) Out of skydiving or bungee jumping, which do you think would be the more frightening? Would you ever do either of them?
... bungee jumping. The idea of the jerk at the end completely nauseates me, aside from which there's all these health hazards involved like your eyes falling out. There probably are with skydiving too, but at least I don't KNOW about it. And skydiving... well, if you have a problem you could die, but same with bungee jumping, and besides, skydiving just seems more fun. You don't have a rope attached to you, so it's more like flying, and you're not upside-down.
Can't really see me doing either, though. I have a paralysing fear of heights, and of risks, and I get motion sickness. I'd be paranoid the rope would break or the shute wouldn't open and I'd freeze up and go into hysterics or something.
3) Describe your perfect three course meal *g*
Ooooh, tough one. Mmmmm. *getting hungry* Well, let's see. I'd have to go with the meal we have on Easter, because I've always loved it-
Entree: Scrambled eggs with herbs and caviar using the egg-shell as a cup
Main: Roast lamb with orange sauce, carrot-and-parsnip, baked potatoes, and peas
Desert: Apple pie with cream and vanilla ice-cream
4) If your life goes exactly the way you most want it to, where do you see yourself in ten years?
Ten years...?
Here is where we discover my terrible secret: I don't have future vision. I can sort of see myself at Uni- though it scares me deeply, since I've been going to school with the same people for a decade- but after that? Zip. Nada. Nothing. I'm afraid of graduating, not just from Uni but from year 12. And when you ask why, you then discover two more of my deep fears- time and change. I don't WANT it to be ten years from now. Everyone is really excited about how close we are to graduating and seem to have all these great plans for the future, but all I am is scared and unhappy. ^^;
Not that I want to be dead in ten years, mind you. Interesting a sentiment as "live fast, die young, leave a beautiful corpse" is, even I have enough sense to realise it's not a good life motto. *g*
... OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I'M GOING TO BE IN SYDNEY WHEN CORI GETS BACK! *breaks down into tears* WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH life sucks.
On the bright side, though (what I was saying before I realised the above), KUNOKUNIYA! HOORAY! Mum wrote me a note to take tomorrow! *heart* I can even overlook the fact that Tuesdays are my crap days with no frees, because I'm not doing anything after school, I have Thursday off work AND school (moderation day at school and they're closing at 5pm at work- not enough doctors), and mum is actually contemplating my suggestion that we go out for lunch on Wednesday instead of me attending that dumbass ceremony to open the hall! W00t!
I have japanese homework I was meant to do. *shifty look* Oops. I'll... be back.
*checks length of entry* YES LONGISH ENTRY I SO ROCK.

In other news:
- I'm halfway through translating Yellow
- I received a letter from Cori! She'll be back on Sunday my time! *rejoices*
- Have procured the first episode of an anime about Onmyouji and such set in the Heian era of Japan (794-1185), Otogizoushi, which was cool enough to prompt me to go in search of episode 2. I LOVE the animation style.
- Have been writing for various X challenges instead of working
- Speaking of writing, I sorted out my memories over at
insaneidiot (which took quite some doing, I might add.)

1) If you could go anywhere in the world for a holiday, where would it be? What about to live?
2) If you had to choose one thing that you couldn't live without- aside from people- what would it be?
3) Do you find the question about whether you'd opt for the death of someone you knew and someone you didn't to be really morally difficult? Why/why not?
4) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Physical and personality-wise?
5) If you could choose any skill that you don't already have- yes I mean writing/Latin/drawing- to acquire, what would it be?

Date: 2004-08-17 02:24 am (UTC)1) If you could go anywhere in the world for a holiday, where would it be? What about to live?
why, i would go on a grand tour of europe, visiting all those places with beautiful art and interesting historical figures, then i'd head on down to a road trip across america, soaking in the majestic countryside and every different aspect of all that vibrant and contradictory and horrifying and addictively awesome western culture. japan would be nice also, as an afterthought. live? australia - maybe melbourne - keeps looking better and better.
2) If you had to choose one thing that you couldn't live without- aside from people- what would it be?
food! literally AND emotionally. in all sense of the world. i think it's one of life's greatest natural pleasures, to be celebrated and enjoyed and CONSUMED a whole damn lot.
3) Do you find the question about whether you'd opt for the death of someone you knew and someone you didn't to be really morally difficult? Why/why not?
yes. extremely so, because all human life is equal and my loved one has no more right to live than another random person. but because i guess i'm just inherently selfish, if i didn't know these people i wouldn't have to witness the resulting devestation which i'd see in my own friends and family (not to mention in myself.) i wouldn't exactly be dancing about it though.
4) If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Physical and personality-wise?
physically - despite normal attacks of self-loathing and paranoia, i have to admit i'm pretty lucky and happy with myself. a size up in the chest department would be nice, but i get by *grin* personality-wise - you could argue that this is also physical, but once a month i'd really love not to be delieriously happy one moment and a crazy agressive alpha-bitch with a constantly repressed impulse to just to smack people in the face the next.
5) If you could choose any skill that you don't already have- yes I mean writing/Latin/drawing- to acquire, what would it be?
composition. i'd love to be able to COMPOSE. if the purpose of art is to evoke emotion, i think music is the most instantaneous and powerful way of doing this - and being effortlessly able to create beautiful things which carry you away and tap straight into another person's feelings is something i'd give a lot of things to be able to do.
