I HATE AUSTRALIA. I'M GOING TO MOVE TO CANADA OR SOMETHING.

*weeps bitter tears of left-wing defeat*

It's all over. Halfway through the counting, and we've already lost. Another 3 years of John fucking HOWARD. I am so very depressed by this.

The only vague consolation is the mild amusement afforded by the computer saying John Howard's seat was in doubt.

If ONLY.

I have lost my faith in humanity. What little faith I had left. How could anyone vote him back into power for a fourth term when it's been PROVED that he's a big fat liar? Okay, just putting aside the fact that he's a right-wing BASTARD- people are selfish and bigotted, I'm going to have to deal with that and move on- how can they vote for a LIAR?

We move to Canada, were I shall get drunk enough to embrass you horribly at your wedding with tales from past.

Or possibly just get other people to do that bit.

Latham may be unknown young man, but both Howard, Costello, Abbott, Nelson, Alston et al are ALL known utter bastards. Democracy doesn't work.

The people vote, and they voted them in. Thus democracy works.

Aim of democracy is to get the country run by the best people possible. Democracy produces Howard & co. Doesn't fall under my definition of working.

Hmm? You mean me?

I dislike both of them. I was merely saying why people would vote Howard. It's not because they like him and what he's done, it's just that they know him.

er, i was referring to myself and the australian public collectively. and i personally find it hard to reconcile the pros of familiarity with the cons of being lied to by a bigoted conservative, but apparently, as you say, other people can.

Another 3 years of John fucking HOWARD. I am so very depressed by this.

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] damouse on the phone yesterday and she mentioned his name since she lives in Australia too... can you explain to me? ^ ^;

John Howard is the current prime minister of Australia- he's been prime minister since 1996. He's the leader of the Liberal party, which perversely enough is the name of our right-wing party. He's responsible for Australia's involvement in the Iraq war; he brought in a tax that as opposition leader he promised never to bring in, and he's a general all-around asshole. A term in Australia is 3 years long, and there's no limit on how many terms you can serve. This is his fourth term in office. *sigh*

OH yes.

What is worse is Family First- they're only a minor party, and this is their first election, but they're right-wing rabid Christians. One of their policies was that lesbians should be burned at the stake as witches.

And they got a few seats.

On the bright side, though, the Greens' (who are left-wing and support the legalisation of gay marriage, amongst other policies) vote went up rather astronomically.

They lied about their Christian connection, too. They were founded by like, a bishop or something, and they claimed they weren't a Christian party. Feh.

And yes, Greens = good. ^^

Sadly, I don't think Howard will stay in office very long. He'll retire and give the leadership to Peter Costello. I say "sadly" because while John Howard is a fucking liar, bigot and terrorist in his own ways, Costello is going to jump in and make life even worse for Australians.

In a way, this is good, because hopefully it'll show Australias the fuck-up they made in 2004 election, and stick with Labor for a few good years after the election in 2007 ^___^!

... Or is it 2008? o.O?

Don't worry, I voted Labor xP

I didn't get to vote... *anguish* Not that it would have made any difference, living in a 'safe seat'. *huff*

Peter Costello might be better in some ways, actually. He's closer to the centre of the floor on social issues- much less right-wing than Howard on things like education, and he IS a republican...
