Dec. 5th, 2004 12:52 amI'll do a formal post later. With photos, even. I swear. But for now...
OMFG ARGH. THAT ENDING SUCKS LIKE NOTHING ELSE. It's like they took every single modicum of JOY from the entire series and destroyed it! No more Spike! The breaking of Faye's heart! The BREAKING UP OF ALL THEIR FRICKING TIES OF FRIENDSHIP HOW COULD EIN AND ED LEAVE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. And. And. HOW COULD SPIKE DIEEEEEEEEE AND LEAVE FAYE ALL ALONE...
*bursts into tears*
I am inconsolable. Hit me with your happy AUs. *sniff*

Date: 2004-12-04 01:08 pm (UTC)Spike didn't love Faye-- he loved Julia. When she died, it was the beginning of the end. It was inevitable that Vicious had to die, and of course take Spike with him. It's sort of like the relationship between Captain Barbosa and Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean", in an odd way. I'd try to justify that, but I think I'd just break both our brains. Of course-- another comparison is Seishirou and Subaru.
Spike's dying word, "Bang", the reflection of what he said in the episode about the kid who would stay young forever, were perfect. He said that when someone forever stuck in the past died, and then again at his own death. And that's what Spike was-- his glass eye only saw the past, and his real eye the present. You'll notice nothing was looking to the future. He didn't have a future.
Ed and Ein moved on to be happy with Ed's father. I think that is fantastic. She finds peace there. Jet would never be happy if Spike lived-- Spike did nothing but hurt him over and over. Imagine if your best friend was entirely reckless and never let you help when they needed it most, but always did all these things that made you still call them your best friend. That's the position Jet is in. And, honestly, I feel most sorry for him because of his leg. He says himself that it renders him lame.
Faye... honestly, starting when she finds out about her past, her life takes a downward spiral. At the same time, I think it's good for her. It's better that she live her life truthfully and find real happiness than clinging to Spike (who will never care for her in the same way) and false realities. I have hope for Faye in a way I don't for Jet.
...And I'll stop rambling now.
Wasn't that just spoilerific?

Date: 2004-12-04 10:45 pm (UTC)I actually do agree with that. I mean, I can accept that it was a really good ending and I know there've been times when I've ended fics depressingly and people have been like "WAH YOU CAN'T DO THAT! ;_;" even though it's the best ending for the story. I can't help but be woeful about it, though. For Faye and Jet, that is, particularly Faye. It's like how I'm sad about Hokuto's death, not so much for her sake (since she didn't seem that bothered about it) as for Subaru's. As for Ed and Ein leaving... that was the best thing for them, that they got out before everything went to hell. And I'm happy for them. ^^ But on the other hand, I have a whole personal abandonment issue thing going on, and that automatically made me go "what about the people they left behind?" I'm just... over-sensitive to stuff like that.
Still, it was the best way to end Cowboy Bebop so there actually WAS an end. (And the bang thing was cool.)
