tammaiyaAlright, I'm not even going to make a pretense at having a life. Instead I'm going to point at my icon and say, "Look! Isn't Kazahaya PRETTY?" and give thanks to CLAMP for having such an overly dodgy opening picture.
To clarify for those of you who have read volume 1 and went "what are you talking about? Legal Drug isn't anywhere near as gay as TB, or X, or Duklyon, or CCS, or...", I would here like to say that volume two is (as I put it earlier) a veritable EXPLOSION OF GAY.
(On that note watch this space for Sorata's Big Gay Adventure, a fic connected to this expression. XD)
I'm not sure if this will really be of interest to anybody but I was bored and it was vaguely entertaining to me, so I've translated the first chapter of volume two. I even made a new shiny icon to go with it- see above.
[] are action tags, ** means someone is thinking something, '' is for the little handwritten comments outside of speechbubbles.
[Young Kazahaya is sleeping under a tree. A girl in a kimono comes to stand next to him.]
Girl: You’re sleeping in a place like this again.
Do you know what time it is?
Kaza: I know.
Girl: But class has already started.
Kaza: I know that too.
Girl: Even though you know you’re still taking a nap?
Kaza: Isn’t it time for your class now too?
Girl: I went looking for you. It was inevitable.
Kaza: So you’re going to skip too because of me?
Girl: [lies down on her stomach next to Kazahaya] Not at all. In such good weather, lying down makes me sleepy.
Kaza: It’s okay if you sleep. I’m going to- I’m sleepy.
Girl: We really are alike in some ways.
[lies down on Kazahaya’s chest.]
You’re warm.
You’re always warm.
Kaza: Kei…
[Kei sits back on her heels and Kazahaya sits up, Kei burying her head against his chest.]
Kei: Even though I have a name of fire… I’m always cold, unlike you.
Maybe one day you won’t be here anymore. Like your name. Like the wind.
If that happens, I’ll be sad and lonely. Maybe I’m being strange.
Kaza: [puts his arms around Kei] I won’t leave.
Kei: Really?
Kaza: Yep. Because when you’re crying, it’s hard to make you stop crying.
[Kei smiles and stands up leaning over the still sitting Kazahaya, cupping his face in her hands.]
Kei: Then promise me…
That you’ll always be near, Nii-san.
[Present day Kazahaya wakes up at a funny angle in a tree, half lying on a branch and half supported by Rikuo, who is standing on the branch below.]
Kaza: H… huh?
Rikuo: You can sure sleep well in these conditions.
Kaza: I was asleep? How did I get into a position like this?
Rikuo: You climbed. [He smirks.] You have good will power to climb up a tree and sleep this late at night.
Kaza: [having a silent hissy fit] *That guy really pisses me off!*
Rikuo: There really is something about this tree, is there?
Kaza: [wistfully] Yeah. I remember this tree. I used to come here every night to sleep.
IT’S HERE! [points and yells]
[A tiny cat scampers out from the underbrush]
Rikuo: [slaps a hand over Kazahaya’s mouth] Be quiet! It ran away!
[The cat runs toward the tree; there is a basket hanging upside down from a rope, and Rikuo uses his powers to snap the rope and trap the kitten under the basket.]
Kaza: GOT IT!
[Both climb down from the tree. Kei runs toward the kitten and picks it up, cradling it against his chest.]
Kaza: Great! Your owner was worried- let’s take you home!
Rikuo: [flatly] You two are really well suited- you’re just like an animal.
Kaza: [puffs up like a pissed off cat] WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!
[Scene change back to Green Drugstore. Kazahaya runs in still holding the kitten.] WE CAUGHT THE CAT!
[Saiga is lying with his head in Kakei’s lap; Kakei has one arm under Saiga’s body and the other cradling his head. Both look smugly content. Kazahaya freezes, sweatdropping with a very stunned expression.]
Kaza: Ah- eh- ooh-
Kakei: Oh, don’t worry, the tuna’s there. [points down at the floor]
Kaza: Ha-hai!
Kakei: The back of his ears and head and the tip of his tail are black, and his eyes are golden. This is definitely the cat we were looking for.
Well done. I’ll pay you your reward.
Kaza: YAY!
Kakei: You didn’t use this carry bag?
Rikuo: The cat went to sleep on him and wouldn’t let go.
Kaza: [tickling the chin of the kitten, who is lying on his knees.] Really.
Kakei: Kudoh-kun, you get on very well with cats. [Kazahaya grins]
[Saiga is still lying in Kakei’s lap; Kakei’s hand is curled under his jaw] Did you used to have a cat?
Kaza: [smiling happily] No. But I did used to live with someone like a cat.
Kakei: [slight smile] Someone like a cat?
[Kazahaya’s expression basically says “OOPS” and Rikuo looks interested]
Kakei: Forgive me for keeping you up so late. Please return to your room and have a good rest.
Kaza: Hai! [stands up and tries to remove kitten, but it sticks its claws into his t-shirt.]
Um, he…
Kakei: Looks like he wants to stay with you, Kudoh-kun.
Will you take care of him for a night?
Kaza: [cuddling kitten again] Hai!
Seeya later!
Kakei: Looks like there’s a bit more to Kazahaya.
Oh. There’s a message from Saiga for you, Rikuo.
[Rikuo looks alert]
He says that as usual, information regarding Tsukiko-san’s manner of walking is important.
Did you have anything else you wanted to ask?
Rikuo: If Saiga doesn’t know, asking anything else would be futile.
Kakei: I can’t help you with Tsukiko-san…
Because I don’t know the future of people who are stronger than I am.
Rikuo: [looks determined and a little angry] Tsukiko is alive. Even though I don’t know where she is right now, I’ll get her back.
[scene changes to Kazahaya’s room. The window is open, the kitten is on the bed and he’s pulling on his sleeping t-shirt]
Kaza: But then, I had that strange dream.
[panel of Kei smiling down and back to Kazahaya looking sad]
I broke the promise, Kei.
But if we were together, you or I? Which one would…
[cat dashes towards the window, pauses on the windowsill to look back at him and jumps out. Kazahaya panics, reaching out for it]
AAAAAA! WAIT! It’s 3 floors up from the ground!
[cat lands on its feet and is fine. Kazahaya goes weak with relief]
It… it’s okay.
[cat runs away]
IT’S NOT OKAY! [runs out of the room and straight into Rikuo]
Rikuo: [amused] Can’t you look where you’re going?
Kaza: [shoves past him to run down the stairs] THE CAT RAN AWAY!
Rikuo: WHAT?!
[scene change. Saiga wakes and sits up]
Kakei: Did you sleep well?
Saiga: [puts a hand behind Kakei’s neck] Because it was your knee.
[the two lean forward, are about to kiss and-]
Saiga: [still with one hand curled around the back of Kakei’s neck and the other now on his arm] It’s loud outside.
Kakei: Thanks to the two young ones.
Saiga: Isn’t the job finished?
[leans forward to kiss Kakei’s neck]
Kakei: [smiling] The job is finished, but… there’s an *extra*.
[scene change again. Rikuo and Kazahaya are chasing the kitten]
Rikuo: Why didn’t you close the door!
Kaza: It WAS closed!
It escaped through the window!
Rikuo: Three floors?! Shouldn’t it have been hurt?
Kaza: If it had it wouldn’t be running like that!
Rikuo: If that’s so, that cat-
[cat jumps up on top of a really high wall]
Kaza: Hey, wait!
[Kazahaya jumps up on the wall too and starts running along the top of it. Rikuo follows on the ground. They end up in a park with the kitten sitting on top of the jungle gym]
Kaza: [irritably to Rikuo] You’re slow.
Rikuo: [flippantly] A cat is better to chase after a cat.
Kaza: WHAT’S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!
Rikuo: [claps a hand over fuming Kazahaya’s mouth] Don’t yell, it’ll run away again.
Kaza: But why did that cat come to a park like this?
Rikuo: Maybe it didn’t have a reason aiming for this park. It could have just come here when it was running.
Kaza: That’s not it. It seemed like it was guiding us here for some reason. I could feel it.
[Rikuo glances at him, eyes narrowed thoughtfully; flashback to cat running]
Kaza: Ah! You jerk! You think I’m talking about dreamer stuff, don’t you?
Rikuo: ‘Oh, shut up.’
No. That cat is definitely-
[Rikuo stops talking, and both turn suddenly to look at the cat, who begins to disappear]
Kaza: What the HELL?
Why is that cat coming APART?
Rikuo: It fell from three floors and was fine. I don’t think that’s an ordinary cat.
Kaza: Even though I thought this job was normal!
Rikuo: Not that Kakei gives us easy jobs.
Kaza: I feel like I’ve been played around with somehow. ‘Am I easy to play around with?!’
Rikuo: More than that, if we don’t catch it quickly we won’t get our reward.
Kaza: [panicky] That’s right!
[the cat completely disappears and reforms as Tsukiko and Kei. Kazahaya and Rikuo stare in shock]
Kaza: KEI?!
Rikuo: TSUKIKO?!
[they turn abruptly to stare at each other, then the two girls turn back into the kitten, who floats down to land in Kazahaya’s arms. They go back and Kakei is outside on the stairs, leaning back against the rail with a mysterious smile]
Kakei: Welcome back.
The cat went to the park, then?
Kaza: How did you know?!
Kakei: [pets the kitten] This little one was born in the park. I don’t mean in the biological sense.
Children always want to play in the park. That feeling gathered, and this cat was born. It’s a bit embarrassing to say it, but it’s like a spirit.
Therefore, it is at the park where it can demonstrate its foremost power. It wanted to thank you, so it showed both of you something that would make you happy.
In gratitude, it became the form of the people you wanted to see most, didn’t it?
It’s okay, it won’t run away again. Let it sleep with you, Kudoh-kun.
Kaza: Okay.

Goes without saying I love the characters and the story. I just really hope this doesn't turn into another hiatus... *twitch*

Also, Kakei is very pretty and Saiga vaguely reminds me of Seishirou.

It's hard to get more subtext-y than the line "so are we alone now?" with Saiga draping himself over Kakei when if Kakei turned his head about half an inch they'd be kissing. Somehing like that, anyway; memory not wha it should be at the moment.
