From self-introduction to speech
--- Acquiring the ability to make speeches from practising self-introduction
As above-mentioned, the matter of introduction as it concerns self-introduction will be explained. A lot of these things should surprise you. If you are aware of these things, you should be able to cope in any situation. When you include too many things it conversely weakens the impression, so it is essential to squeeze the content of your introduction in to fit the presentation time. In assembling a speech, prepare a blank form like the one on the next page; if you make such preparations, you are better able to sort through the content of the speech in advance and it helps you to check it.
As well as that, practise the speech thoroughly. Sometimes when waiting you may change it and perform it. Today we’re going to perform a self-introduction in 3 seconds. Next time, no matter what the circumstances, practise the way you say a two-minute self-introduction so that you’ll be able to do a self-introduction that suits the situation.
If you compare them with speeches, self-introductions are by far the more difficult to improve at. Accordingly, by becoming competent at and performing self-introductions, you will also grasp a sense of self-confidence with speeches.
When you have reached the point where you can do self-introductions, we proceed to the next level.
From the self-introduction, we will take one point of focus and make a speech about it. In order to be able to make a speech in that way, we are, so to speak, doing a ‘soft landing’.
So first is what kind of speech we will do. For the time being, we will try to regard them as falling into three categories.
1) Offering Information
For example, from talking of workplaces you could talk about how you feel that there is a problem with industry being made meaningless. How can Japanese enterprises possess manufacturing bases overseas? Compare to one year ago and five years ago; what kind of changes have been made? Again, from this, talk of how they are continuing to be made.
Possibly you could also consider saying something that offers technical information that you have gained from your work. However, if at all possible, you must choose a theme that concerns everyone.
2) Raising Problems
From talking of when you were a student, you could talk about how you feel there is a problem with education nowadays and introduce the truth of the actual scene of education and so on. What can be done with normal education? Possibly it would be good if families had more contact with their children.
Again, from volunteer activity, you could talk about the scene of caring for the elderly, identify the issues with nursing insurance, and furthermore, how can an aging society cope?
3) Talking About Your Own Experiences
From the club activities and the club captain you served under as a student, you could talk about what your terms would be as a leader. Put them in itemised order; you could also talk about how things such as these would gain you the confidence of dedicated club members.
Again, from an introduction of your job, you could also consider talking about your interaction with customers, how you make proposals, and introducing the follow-after you talked about.
If the content is solid enough, it doesn’t matter even if you’re talking about your hobbies. If it’s fishing, you could consider talking about the epitome of clear stream fishing, how to do it, and costs. If it’s travel, you could consider talking about places you’ve been or how to enjoy yourself.
Anyway, about that dream? my psyche is so fucked up sometimes, I swear. Particularly with the part about sleeping with the phantom of the opera. That was just weird. And involved singing. O.o;
Promised to work for dad tomorrow after my lectures, which had forgotten until he reminded me tonight. Will be LONG day, particularly considering japanese-related lack of sleep and the sheer boring of foundations, which I have a two-hour seminar in. *shudder*
Saz wanted the group to go out together on Saturday night. Observing the stacks of reading I have to do, am not sure I really can. It all has to be done by tuesday; not much in torts, because the lectures are slightly behind the course outline and we're still on the content from week one (for which I've done almost all the reading except some of the less urgent ones towards the end of the list), but the japanese will take a very long time. (hint: took me about 4 hours or so to do the above. that was 2.5 pages. the week 2 reading is 6 pages.) then there is foundations which is both boring and extensive.
can anyone tell I don't like foundations? no, surely not! XD
ooh, break my stride, I love this song. <3
Anyway, brother is apparently coming home this weekend. am quite sure he will take the opportunity to laugh at my pain, being the sweet loving brother he is. when he does, will point out that I get more holidays than him. ha ha ha.
god, I need to go to bed SO much. er. shower. then bed.
