Conversation with my mother about her court case!

Me: So what defences are they using?
Mum: Contributory negligence.
Me: What, with the kid? But... there's a lower standard of care for children. Are they stupid or something?
Mum: I know, my counsel has been quoting old High Court cases.
Me: Ooh, did he use that one with the boy and the pointy stick?
Mum: Yes, that was it! What was it, McHale v Watson? He quoted from that one extensively!
Me: I studied that in class. I'm using it for my assignment, actually. >D

I FEEL LIKE I ACTUALLY KNOW SOMETHING. OH MY GOD JOY.

ETA: ... why does my dad know everyone? No, seriously! He was at uni with/lectured by most of my textbook writers, and he's met/acted for every person involved in an ACT case in my casebook. O.o;

Also, the Mahu of Polynesia are so cool. Third gender!

You have to look for v- it's actually pronounced "and". Basically, it's a case about a 12 year old boy who sharpened a piece of steel and threw it at a post of wood as a dart hoping it would stick, but it glanced off and hit a 9 year old girl in the eye.
