Date: 2005-05-30 01:56 pm (UTC)I lack expertise in Japanese poetry, but according to this translation (http://ejmas.com/proceedings/GSJSA04alexanian.html) that line would be: "After we crossed the river in the night by paying attention, even to the sounds of whips, we found that the banner of the general of our enemy was surrounded by a great number of soldiers" (there's also a more literal line-by-line break down). And cats, as a rule. Some dogs I absolutely adore (such as my husky Theo) but for the most part, I prefer the disposition of cats... they tend to be more... headstrong.
