OKAY, ALL. AN OPINION IS REQUIRED. You don't even have to know Tsubasa so long as you know Seishirou! And this is spoiler free, since it just involves a splash page!

The splash page for Chapitre 93 has Seishirou. By looking at the other splash pages, the text definitely relates to him in SOME way.

The text says this:

Will (I/you/he/she/it/insert noun here) continue to hide it for eternity?

The fragility behind the strength

The kindness behind the coldness

Now, clearly my problem here is related to Japanese and its occasional COMPLETE LACK OF SUBJECT, especially pronouns and proper nouns. Is it talking about Seishirou? Or is it Seishirou talking about someone else?

And if the latter: Subaru?

(Yes, I know, I'm obsessing over Tsubasa too much today. HUSH.)

But, it's sort of unclear whether the splash pages are talking about the character or they're the character talking, if you know what I mean? Like, the Clow one could be "I believe in only the future, even though it's just a castle of sand" or "He believes in only the future, etc". So... This could be talking about Seishirou, like you suggested, or it could be Seishirou talking to Someone Undisclosed (probably Subaru.)

The only one I can really think to draw a parallel with is Syaoran catching a snowflake: "If (subject)'s hand reaches out to your heart like (subject) catches this snow..."

Which makes most sense with Syaoran talking to Sakura. Er. I think.

I get what you mean, if it is Sei talking or is a 'caption'... looking at the ohter splash pages could help but I suspect all must be the same, besides Clamp likes a lot those text vagueness... but I still think it is a caption and for some reason 'this' Seishiro will say all those things the 'other' Seishiro never said...

But we don't know what Tsubasa!Subaru is like. All we know is that he's a vampire, that he's with Hokuto, and that he's presumably avoiding Seishirou. If he's more like X... well, in X he acts like he wants to kill Seishirou right up until the end when really he still loves him. He pretends he's strong enough to kill Seishirou when he's too weak to overcome his feelings-- fragility behind strength. He's indifferent to everyone, but he used to be really kind. If you fuse the two together, and get someone who is like TB!Subaru on the inside and acts like X!Subaru for whatever reason, it makes sense.

... only what I just said didn't make sense. OH WELL.

But the fragility behind the strength sounds a lot more like Subaru. Especially since-- as Leareth said-- it's likely that he'll have his X personality. Even looking at all the other splashes, it's completely ambiguous whether it's first person or not.

My instinct says Subaru *g* and leads me to think TRC!Subaru is going to be more like his X-self than TB-self, though I have a feeling that in terms of looks Subaru is going to be like his TB-self. We shall see when CLAMP deigns to bring him and Hokuto in.

My feeling is pretty much in agreement with your feeling. XD Which is a pity, because X!Subaru is hotter. But especially if Hokuto is there, I can see why they'd be more likely to stick to TB appearances.

On an interesting connected side-note, I can't decide whether Seishirou looks more like X or TB. My final conclusion is somewhere hovering between the two. He's younger than X and that smile is very TB. Sometimes he pulls out his glasses, too. But his hair is less 80s more X. As is lack of eye.

Or maybe I'm just imagining things. XD

The lack of eye does make one think post-TB, but yes, he does look younger than X. His smile isn't as cold/condescending as it is in X. Actually I would argue he looks even younger than TB-era, though part of me is thinking this is due to TRC's general art-style which (to me at least) seems to makes CLAMP's adult characters look somewhat younger (Yasha is probably the best example.) Though that might just be me.

No, I agree. He looks more like the age he was when he first made the Bet. 18-ish. And yeah, the smile is much more TB-ish. It's not as nasty as cold as it is in X, even when he's BEING nasty. XD

Technically, TB!Subaru IS legal. He's just really naive.

TRC!Seishirou certainly seems a bit 'nicer'. I mean, look at him when Kurogane comments "Those are the eyes of the murderer" (sic), and compare that smiley expression to, oh, Tokyo Babylon when Seishirou is being frightening (end of Call B, that really cool pic when his shikigami returns after watching Kumiko-sensei, the final pic of book 6, the beginning of Annex: Start when Subaru's having nightmare memories). THAT'S Seishirou being nasty.

Technically and legally TB!Subaru is legal, but can extreme naivete count as being incapable of giving consent? *g*

Don't the splash pages talk about the character(s) featured on them? Like I remember the one with Touya and Yukito and the text was pretty much about them. Though I wouldn't really know because I haven't read all of TRC so I'm not much of help, hehe. ^_^; Because I just wanted to ask, how does this new splash page look? O.o And sorry for the double comments.

Yeah, it's just, in Japanese, there's no pronoun most of the time. So you can't tell if it's third person talking about Seishirou, or Seishirou talking first person. Scan down the other comments, I think I explained it better there.

Yes, one certainly hopes so. XDDD Seishirou hasn't actually popped up again since Outo except for splash page(s, I don't remember if there were more), but there've been some interesting characters popping up every so often. Especially if you've read RG Veda.
