Since I'm done with Namco, onto Squeenix, starting of course with the game that we all know is on the top of my list.

(Though note first with Square that they're playing their cards close to the chest, and haven't really put up any of the info they're showing at the TGS yet. Presumably they're waiting until the show is over.)

Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ is officially confirmed to be coming out in spring (northern hemisphere) of next year. It's going to be bundled with a PS2 remake version, with character voicing, of Chain of Memories. In 3D! Whoo. Now, so far Square is telling us no more than that on their official site. KHII:FM doesn't even have its own subsite yet.

However, the KH2 Ultimania website has a report of the KH showing at TGS with days 1 and 2 so far, including photos, plus screenshots from magazines when the Final Mix remake was first announced. There's a pretty good account of the Final Mix/RE:CoM trailers, too, which unfortunately have not yet hit the net.

In conclusion: go here.

Pay special note to the bit with Axel and Roxas and the ice cream, because I am having incoherent gurgling joygasms in a corner riiiiiiight over here. ♥

One of the new games Square has just announced is It's A Wonderful Word (Subarashiki Kono Sekai) for DS. There really isn't much on it yet; there's some screenshots on that page I just linked, and it does have a subsite, but all that's got up so far is the title, the platform and that it's a 2007 release. The genre is "touch action RPG". I am vaguely mystified, but it looks quite cool and the character designs are interesting. (Nomura was involved with them, apparently.) Gamespot has a report of it here.

Next is another game there is jack all info on: FFVII Crisis Core, PSP. There are some nice screenshots. Which I have seen before, but they're clear and reasonably sized, so. You may have noticed that the page I've linked to is "Compilation of FFVII"-- it also has a link to the Before Crisis subsite. However, the information (such as it is) seems mostly to involve CC. If so, the icons on the side mean that there is a movie and a playable demo. Note that Crisis Core has its own site, but despite this there is actually less info on it than on KHII:FM, because there's no release date set for CC yet. The site hasn't changed for months, and just has a list of the staff working on it. I suspect there should be more after the TGS is over, though.

According to Gamespot's coverage on Crisis Core, there was a trailer, though it was quite short, and the game should be released some time during 2007.

Continuing in the tradition of no info whatsoever is FFXIII, on PS3. There's a trailer which is not online yet. I'm not sure if this is the same trailer that was shown at E3.

... No, Gamespot says it's new. It's not THAT different, however, and still doesn't tell us much. No release date, no plot details. There are some pretty cool screenshots of mysterious female main character fighting stuff, though. Here's the trailer, too, but the quality is very fuzzy.

In addition, there are some new screenshots of FF Versus XIII, which is also for PS3. There's no new info on it yet, though.

I have a moral objection to mobile games, partially because they are a money pit-- mostly because of that, actually-- partially because I am dubious as to how good the gameplay on a MOBILE could be and partially because of their inaccessibility, particularly outside of Japan. However; Final Fantasy XIII Agito is a mobile game. I will probably never play it. But the description Gamespot gives of the trailer is admittedly quite cool-sounding.

There isn't much on FF6 for GBA yet, either. It's set for release 30 November, and I think there's a trailer vid, but the in game graphics seem pretty much the same as the SNES version. The very limited blurb doesn't seem to indicate any significant changes. Presumably it is minus the cutscenes from the PS version, because you can get CGI on DS and PSP but not GBA, which makes me wonder what the point of a GBA remake of the older FFs actually is.

However, it seems that the other FF GBA remakes got/are getting extra features added, so probably there will be some for FFVI.

Square were also showing FF5 for GBA at the TGS this year, set for release on 12 October. It has a site up here. I do note-- and I assume this applies to FFVI too, since the screenshots are smaller-- that the graphics, while still 2D chibi sprites, look like they've been touched up from the SNES and possibly even the PS version. There's not much info on the FFV Advance site that you wouldn't already know from playing an earlier version of the game, but there are two new job classes-- Gladiator and Cannoneer. You can see cute chibi 3D models of them if you go to the FFV site and go through to system &>; new job. Square has a very piecemeal way of updating their game subsites, so I'm sure we'll find out more about differences and such over the next few weeks.

Continuing in the line of new FF games is FFXII: Revenant Wings for DS. It looks GORGEOUS. I mean, frankly I have no idea how good the plot or gameplay will be, what with it being a spin-off of an existing FF game on a handheld platform, but it looks lovely and I wants it precious. I'm a sucker for characters I already like, and Penelo was cute. Plus, there's a shot of Balflear, and he was awesome. But yeah, the graphics; to be completely honest, I was shocked, because I didn't think you could actually GET graphics that good on the DS. Square managed, though-- that's some very high quality CGI. Penelo does look a little different to the way she did in FFXII-- maybe a bit girlier?-- and I'm not sure why, exactly, but Vaan still looks basically the same. Square's moving fast with this one, and already have the site up here; I was also surprised because I hadn't heard anything to suggest that a game like this was on the cards. It was like, BAM, out of nowhere.

Anyway, according to the prologue (you'll have to click on it for yourself from the subsite, it's all flash): This is the story of an era where magic still existed as a matter of course and airships that reached the heavens filled the vast skies.

"On the other side of this sky, there is the floating continent of Bluvama where no one has ever been."

Dreaming of that legend, there was a boy who yearned to be a sky pirate.

Lead to the Treasure of Greybatos, he opens the door of disappearing memory.

The other side of the sky--

There, the forgotten land of the heavens where the winged people live.

In the characters page, there's 6 silhouettes, but 4 of them have question marks when you float over them. Two of the silhouettes are definitely Fran and Balflear, though. The two non-silhouetted characters are of course Vaan and Penelo. Vaan is now 18 (he was 17 in FFXII), and Penelo 17 (she was 16). There's a little info about them post FFXII in their bios, but since I suspect nobody reading this (assuming anybody actually is reading this) has played FFXII, I'll leave that for now.

The trailers page has the video that was shown at the TGS, which is amazingly gorgeous. I can't link to it where it is because of Square's judicious use of flash, but I can link to it here instead. Assuming that you don't need to be a Squeenix member. If you do just go to the Revenant Wings site (which I linked above) and click the Trailers tab (it's labelled in English, no problems).

Wait, no, that just links you through to the Squeenix members page. I wonder if you have to log in to view it...

Finally from the FF run of titles (because I really couldn't care less about FFXI, since I'm never going to play it) is FFIII for the DS. This is the first time FFIII has been remade, and its initial release was on the NES, so most people have never played it, myself included. The DS remake came out on the 24th of August this year; it has pretty 3D graphics and CG cutscenes. Since it's already released, I'm not going to go through all the info.

If you go to the FFIII site, you can see the trailer, which again has cool CG graphics. (Okay, now I think about it I shouldn't have been so surprised by Revenant Wings.)

That's all for now. I might bring you more on this stuff if I can be bothered RE: the other games I mentioned in the last post but haven't discussed here (Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book, the two Mana games, DQM Joker) or more on the games I have talked about if Square (or Namco) update anything, but.

I would just like to add that while Square's general site is better laid out than Bandai-Namco's, the Namco subsites tend to be much more accessible. More info. Easier to navigate. Etc.

In other, non-video game news, I have caught up on XXXHoLiC. I hadn't read any of volume 10, and now I have. A lot of plot happened in the few chapters I missed, especially given it looked like it was heading into filler when I got distracted from it. Very cool. ♥

Went to the doctor today RE: the not having periods for 4 months thing. She gave me a form for a blood test to check my hormone levels.

Anyway, I have done sod-all uni work this weekend. Maybe I should do something about that.

Though, you know, I'd really rather write something... no, I'll do some reading to assuage my guilt and THEN write. Yeah.

Homg I know. Eee want KH2:FM+ so bad. ♥ Though I'm still a bit 'eh' about the voices thing, it's a pity that they can't have a function to swap.
