Oct. 26th, 2006 02:50 amOkay, so, um. For some reason Livejournal's auto-save function has gone away? Why is this? I had an entry that I was working on before I went to work but it got killed because my father is obnoxious and can't use his own laptop to check the weather forecast, or alternatively open up a new window. BUT I shall not let this dampen my completely excessive good mood! The good mood I am in despite my disgustingly swollen glands and looming exams! Why am I in such a good mood, you ask?
MANY reasons. I shall number them, not necessarily in order of importance, because they are all very excellent things and I haven't bothered ranking them.
ONE: My internet speed has restored itself! HURRAH. Down from 22 hours to download SGA to procuring 2 in less than 2 hours! I watched THREE tonight, which is the first time I've been able to watch more than one for over a week. *rejoices, even though this means she's running out of episodes until she catches up*
TWO: I had my last classes today. Last classes... until FEBRUARY. There are only 3 exams between me and 3 months of freedom. YESSSS.
THREE: Stargate Atlantis? Kicks arse. Michael as a character? Kicks arse. John and Rodney's dork rapport? Kicks arse. The fandom? Kicks SO much arse. On that note, this fic? Kicks unbelievable amounts of arse! Missionary Position by Trinityofone. It's a post-ep for Allies, and the author describes it as what the season 3 premiere would be like if it was written by Douglas Adams, and he was on crack. SO funny.
FOUR: Mirage of Blaze ALSO kicks arse. I have resumed reading it, and having not touched it since before starting Written Japanese C/D this year, my literacy has shot up dramatically. Also, I'm up to chapter 7 and cool stuff is happening. Stuff that happened in the series, but is so much cooler in book form. Even though it's still only volume 1 and Naoe hasn't even started noticeably hitting on Takaya yet, I am experiencing a great resurgance in my love for the canon and for Naoe/Takaya. ♥ More on this later!
FIVE: I finally got around to buying my U2 concert tickets. The concert is in Sydney the night of the day I have my last exam, and I'm going to catch a coach after the exam (well, after lunch after the exam) and meet up with my brother and it will be SO. COOL.
SIX: I love my uni friends. Aaaaaw. ♥
Okay, so back on the point of Mirage of Blaze being awesome, I feel the need to share with you all two scenes which were, yes, in the anime. But that should make you love them MORE. (No, things don't blow up. People yell at each other and say nasty things. Naoe is involved both times, and you are so not surprised, admit it.)
"It's been two days. What's this friend of yours supposedly doing?"
Naoe frowned lightly.
"Right now she's in the middle of an official trip. She had planned to return soon, but apparently the malicous generals have gotten involved, and it seems that she has been delayed cleaning it up."
"What's up with that? Don't you have any other friends?"
"I do, but one is currently a baby, and the other is missing."
Takaya lifts his eyes sullenly.
"I wonder if you guys can really protect Yuzuru. I wonder if you can really drive out Lord Shingen."
"I will protect Yuzuru-san, even if I have to give this life."
Naoe turned suddenly serious.
"I will definitely not allow Shingen to do as he intends."
"........."
For a moment, he swallowed the strength of those words, but.
Takaya snorted defiantly.
"Life? Your life, huh?"
"?"
"Even if you guys die, you can just snatch away some other guy's body and it'll be fine, so what does something like your life have to do with it?"
"!"
Naoe opened his eyes with an expression like he'd been attacked.*
(.... eh....?)
That reaction momentarily was enough to floor Takaya. He'd only intended a light surface wound, but Naoe eyes faced him steadily, glaring at him. Being glared at by such a frightening expression, Takaya flinched unthinkingly. Naoe, coldly,
"I never thought I'd hear such words come out of your mouth."
"-------"
"It's a completely irresponsible thing to say. How about I turn those words you just spoke back on you in kind?"
"!"
Takaya glares back. Naoe's glare is fixed.
You too are a Kanshousha.** Naoe is saying that by implication.
".........."
The one who ran away was Takaya.
"I'm not Kagetora."
"---- Takaya-san..."
Takaya glared down at the asphalt.
And then a small amount of non-related discussion (about Kousaka, that stalker) and the chapter ends.
* Could also be destroyed or defeated but in context, I decided to go with attacked. Still, I thought it bore mentioning from a nuance point of view.
** It's a made-up term, here's Naoe's definition earlier in the book: "They are those whose soul, after the death of their body, possesses another person in its unpurified state- an embryo, specifically- steals that body from its owner, makes it their own, and in that way starts a new life."
There was the sound of someone treading on the grass from behind him. He turns around.
".....!"
There are eyes watching him.
Standing at the foot of a tree not that far away, there stands a young man wearing a trenchcoat. He isn't a school student. His hair is glossy jet black. The youth's beauty is possessed of lips so red they are startling in a pale, handsome face. Touching the trunk of the tree with his fingers, he is staring intently in Naoe's direction.
"It's been a long time, Naoe Nobutsuna."
The youth called his name in a voice like a clear stream.
"........"
Naoe answers quietly.
"So it is you. Kousaka Danjyou."
It seems the two of them know each other somehow. Meeting his gaze briefly, Kousaka's mouth hovered in a smile.
"I thought for sure that you'd show up, Naoe. You moved just as I'd predicted, didn't you."
Watching Naoe chew that over, Kousaka Danjyou speaks.
"It seems you've found Kagetora."
"!"
Naoe turned his eyes to look at him.
"You knew...? You bastard!"
"You overestimate me. I never had any intention of telling you where Kagetora was. Kagetora simply happened to be close to the possessee we chose."
"-------"
"I suppose I should commend him for having revived so well, having been so badly defeated in the battle against Oda thirty years ago. However, the fact that Kagetora has become like that is not lacking in reason."
"........"
Scowling, Naoe spoke.
"It's a miracle he was able to undergo Kanshou at all, with that damage."
Kousaka stares at Naoe with alert eyes.
".... Hn. As if; I highly doubt you think that Kagetora having lost his memory has anything to do with the << Destructive Spirit Wave >> he took, do you."
"....!"
Naoe glares at him sharply. Kousaka continues, lower.
"His amnesia is not something from the << Destructive Spirit Wave >>. His having lost his memory is something he himself wished for. Kagetora has sealed his memory from himself."
"....!...."
"It's hardly like you didn't know that. Who is the one who drove Kagetora to that point? Who is the one who cornered him to the point where he'd intend to seal himself off?"
"Shut up!"
"It was you, wasn't it, Naoe!"
Kousaka yelled.
"What did you do to Kagetora, who was wounded and dying in both mind and body! You drove him to it through your own hypocrisy. You are incapable of showing Kagetora anything like mercy. What is this "crushing of evil and spreading of truth"?* What are the subjugative forces of justice? You're essentially nothing more than a vengeful spirit!"
"!"
Naoe took a breath, speechless.
Kousaka watches Naoe with cold, intent eyes. Naoe has lost the words to respond with. The wind fans the trenchcoat, blowing through.
".... Hn."
Kousaka snorted.
"At any rate, it has nothing to do with me. Well, if Kagetora can't unleash his strength, we can only be grateful."
And then there's, y'know, plot.
* Hajyakenshou, 破邪顕正. Buddhist phrase.
Okay, that took like ages to translate, and I am so with the going to bed now. Koff.
