Well, I promised to regale with tales of my stupidity and how much I fail at public transport, so:

Yesterday, I was supposed to catch a train from Stanmore to Central so I could catch my coach back home at 3pm. I got to the station on time (which is a big thing for me; see also, how many buses I have missed in my life) and had all my bags and etc.

And then I caught a train going in the wrong direction.

What's really pathetic about this is that it took me about half an hour to notice, by which time it was 2.55, and it would only have taken 10 minutes and three stations to get to Central if I were going in the right direction. YEAH. I mean, I was getting suspicious about how long it was taking, but... I got confused. Especially when I passed Strathfield, because I don't know Sydney train lines very well and I had it stuck in my head that Strathfield = almost at Central (yeah, uh, from my grandfather's old house, this is true, because the trains from Beecroft go express and Strathfield was only a stop or two on an express before Central. IN THE OTHER DIRECTION.)

So I finally checked the map and checked my watch and went FUCK FUCK FUCK at around Regents Park, aka what my aunt Marie informs me used to be the last station on the line, and got off at the station either, aka the middle of nowhere. (Seriously, it looked like the middle of nowhere.) Rang mother up in tears, because I was well and truly going to miss my stop, and was lucky that it was around the time when schools let out, because there was a train going back to Central stopping at aforementioned backwater station several minutes after I got off.

Anyway, caught the train back to Central. All told I was on the train for somewhere between an hour and 90 minutes, but that was actually vaguely pleasant, since I had my discman and book two of mirage of blaze with me. (Plus all my other luggage. SIGH. Oh, the joy of wandering Central Station loaded down with big heavy bags.) Went to go book myself another coach, and got lucky, because there was a Greyhound bus leaving at about the time I arrived.

Which means in the end I wasted an hour and a half and $26, but it wasn't as dire as it could have been.

That aside, I REALLY need to learn to drive. We're short one of the day staff at the moment and I wouldn't mind taking extra shifts, but my parents can't give me a lift to day shifts (they work in the other direction) and as for catching the bus... well. The above tale should tell you how confident I feel about that route, and it's only magnified by being in the morning. I don't want to let down work by saying I can come in and then missing the effin' bus.

And in conclusion: note to self, ring about road ready.

Further note to self, also ring:

  • Podiatrist
  • Endocrinologist, RE: new pens for
  • Canberra Hospital? Don't remember the name of the diabetic educator was supposed to see. Shit.
  • ... probably should ring the dietitian, but only after making an appointment to see the diabetic educator.

Aaaaand I have run out of interesting things to say. Or, uh, anything, because I'm not sure I can vouch for the interesting-ness of what I've already said. XD

Last patient's just gone in, which means soon I shall go home and valiantly hit the christmas fics again. Hopefully I'll feel less sick, too; I got to work and felt feverish and dehydrated, dry skin, sore throat, mucus-y... and I don't know why. I was fine earlier today, and when I checked my blood sugar it was an amazingly perfect 4.7, so not the culprit for once. Maybe I have an allergy to a cleaning substance or something.

Hee! It was the station AFTER I called the middle of nowhere. Berrala, or something? Anyway, it felt very far away. *g*

(I shall have to see you when I'm up for Christmas!)
