Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, etcetera
Jan. 2nd, 2007 02:14 pmWasn't feeling that well with diabetes etc on NYE so stayed home, which was enjoyable in its own way. Ebony certainly appreciated it. XD Anyway, in three days I've managed to watch both seasons of Avatar and I'm horribly obsessed with it. It's incredibly quotable, too! I also watched the first three eps of Code Geass.
Christmas was good aside from the bed at the hotel, or the lack thereof. The bed was broken-- full on BROKEN, it sloped all the way down to the floor on the left side-- so on the first night (Christmas Eve) I got almost no sleep and ended up moving the (slightly less broken) mattress to the floor and sleeping on that. Second night was the couchbed in the main room, third and fourth nights were a dodgy trundle bed. I'm sure you can imagine how painful that was for my back. ;_;
Speaking of Christmas Eve, Rohan and I watched the Hogfather. OMG. SO FILLED WITH COOL. Seriously, SO much better than the cartoons for Soul Music and Wyrd Sisters-- the CGI effects were really good, the acting was good, and they didn't try to kiddy it down at all.
Anyway. I'm at my dad's office playing parental secretary right now but I don't have anything to do at the moment because dad is still at lunch and mum is on leave until next week and it's, well, the second day of the new year. The courts are closed. The barristers are all on holidays. Most of the lawyers are on holidays. Most of the clients are too, for that matter. So until dad comes back from lunch I have nothing to do. Wheeeee.
Oh, yeah, and I had that MRI this morning. It was a very unpleasant experience; narrowly avoided claustrophobic freakout. It was very loud, and narrow, and as per usual there was a problem finding a vein when they had to inject the stuff to make my brain light up like christmas lights. And I was in a tube, lying still, for somewhere between 15 minutes and half an hour. Afterwards I had a headache and felt like crap, and my mum had a freakout of her own when she realised that they'd scanned my brain. Apparently she didn't realise that the pituitary gland is, y'know. Inside your head. (she thought it was in your neck, with all those glands that swell when you're sick.)
In conclusion, minorly bored and still have a headache but I have the internet and book five of MoB here failing all else.
ETA: TALK TO ME. PLEASE. I still have a killer headache and nothing to do and AIM Express doesn't work on these computers. D:

Date: 2007-01-02 06:26 am (UTC)@_@ It seems as if MRIs are every bit as nasty as I would have imagined. Anyway, I hope your headache goes away soon.
Hey
Date: 2007-01-02 09:58 pm (UTC)I hope your feeling better now, I am highly amused that your mother didn't realise what an MRI is. I can actually imagine her having a freakout in the hospital. Anyway I can sympathise with your situation i am myself minorly bore.
Question, what is Avatar??? Tell me
Feel better,
Vic
Re: Hey
Date: 2007-01-02 10:18 pm (UTC)Am feeling better if somewhat tired, thanks. I think mum thought MRIs are just general imaging things-- the only experience we've had with them before is when they had to scan my brother's brain to try and find a cause for his epilepsy. I went in without her so she actually didn't have her "What? They scanned your BRAIN? Why does no one in our family have a normal brain?" thing until we were in the car. XD
Avatar is a kid's cartoon on Nickolodeon-- in America at least, I'm not sure if it's been screened here at all-- but it's actually really good and it's very popular. It's set in a fantasy-type world where there are four races of people, each with their own kind of elemental magic (called "bending"-- there's air, earth, fire and water) and there's one person, continuously reincarnated, who is called the Avatar and is the only one who can use all four elements. However, the Avatar disappears for 100 years and the Fire Nation during that time attacks all the others, wiping out the Air Nomads completely. It's surprisingly well-plotted and they have a martial arts consultant to help them because the four types "bending" are done via four different disciplines of martial art. (Water = tai chi movements, fire = shao lin, etc.)
