Jul. 23rd, 2007 12:08 amHaha, man, I just told my mum as she was putting the dog to bed (Ebony's gotten spoilt by me going to bed at random hours and was crying about it) that I wasn't actually going to bed yet, and Ebony dashed out of there like a bat outta hell. I kid you not, it was a full-on prison break-- she ran all the way up to my room with mum chasing after and me following behind, being all, dude, let her be. XD (she's on my lap now)
Anyhow, keeping this brief because I should be trying to sleep or at least doing my comcon reading.
1. I am officially going to the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies next year! It was kind of ridiculous to worry that I wouldn't get my top choice uni, but, well, I was. And now it's certain, so I don't have to anymore. Phew.
2. Connected to this, my parents have told me to start gathering travel brochures for Japan to plan a trip when they visit me next September. Planning trips is always so exciting. ♥
3. Yes, I have bought and read Harry Potter 7. Overall I really liked it, and that's all I'm going to say for now because it's late, and anyway, I've already spouted my opinion in various and sundry conversations and can't be bothered to do it again just yet. Also, I don't want to have to use a spoiler cut. *lazy*
4. Because I am awesome, I finished Okami with every possible collectible item and got all the karmic transformers and the invincibility beads. *smug* If anyone cares about my opinion on the game (other than Becky who I already spammed on AIM), they're going to have to go check at
masterofpixels, which is where all gameblogging has relocated itself to. Or is in the process of doing so, at any rate.
5. Have started KHII Final Mix. English VA kind of causes my ears to bleed; I really like Fuu and Olette, Hayner's not bad, but mostly I'm wistful for the Japanese VA.
6. There's so much plot in book 8 of Mirage of Blaze. It's exhausting me a little. Naoe and Takaya are mostly doing the repress-and-deny thing for the moment so they can do their jobs. I almost wish for a return to the angst as a reprieve from plot (which is wearing on someone whose first language is most assuredly not Japanese), but then I think, would I really be any less exhausted by having to deal with their retardation? XD (Still, it'd be nice to have had some Takaya POV when he was being pissy to Maiko as WELL as Naoe. Naoe deserves it; Maiko, I can only assume he's subconsciously jealous. O Takaya, you don't know what you want.)
7. Namco has simultaneously announced 4 new Tales titles. I say "new", but only one of them is NEW new and it's for NDS, which is a little disappointing because Tales of the Tempest felt like it could've been better on another system. Anyway, that's Tales of Innocence. The others are Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut for PS2, and who knows what THAT is since they just made a remake of ToD for PS2, a remake of Tales of Rebirth for PSP (I tend to think of PSP as inferior to PS2, so this vaguely baffles me), and something called Tales of Symphonia: Knight of... er, some made up word I've forgotten, for Wii. No info on any of them yet.
8. I could still potentially have my driver's licence on Wednesday. I only have one logbook competency left-- driving on busy roads and unfamiliar roads. I'm not sure if this is actually a good thing, though, because while that means my parents don't have to pay my driving lessons any longer, it means increased insurance for a driver under 25 on any car I want permission to drive. And I'm not sure my parents will want to pay that.
9. I have had Okami music stuck in my head for about two days now. It's not a hardship, exactly, but is vaguely funny.
Jesus, why am I awake? I have uni at 9 tomorrow morning.

Date: 2007-07-28 01:11 am (UTC)One who finally has her license! Or has a piece of paper saying she can have her license, at any rate.
Do not ask about Wednesday, where I may almost have driven into the side of a ute. *shifty*

Date: 2007-07-28 01:07 am (UTC)Well... I sort of will know people. Two of my best friends are Japanese sisters who stay with their father in Tokyo December/January every year, although that won't be until the end of my stay. Another girl I do Japanese with will be doing the exchange at a uni not too far from mine.
I have to admit, though, I'm not that phased by the idea of being alone in Japan. I speak Japanese fairly reasonably well, so no worries about the language barrier, and I cope quite well with making friends/not having much social contact except over the internet. It's more the idea of cooking for myself and waking myself up in the morning and paying my own bills and just generally being responsible for myself, which would be the same pretty much anywhere I went. XD

Date: 2007-07-28 10:57 am (UTC)Hm... well, I'm studying Asian Studies Specialist (Japanese) and Law, and I can't say I've really decided what to do when I'm done. I've got at least 4 more years, though, so I've got a while to decide. As for prospects-- well; I definitely want to do something that involves Japanese, which narrows the field somewhat. I don't know if I want to utilise my law degree or not, but it's good as a general business degree if nothing else. Keeping all options in mind, there's diplomacy, working for a law firm that has offices or dealings in Japan, teaching (either at a school or as an academic), translating text, interpretation... there are probably other possibilities more on the law degree scale, but those are the ones I've considered most, preference being translation.
