Okay, LJ, update time.

If all was going according to plan, I would have arrived in Japan about 4 hours ago. However, all is not going to plan, because in the very early hours of Tuesday morning, I started to come down with the death plague. (Okay, I exaggerate. But it FELT like I was dying, okay.) For all of Tuesday, there was no sleep and excruciating swollen tonsils pain. This vexed me greatly, not just because I was extremely miserable, but because I was supposed to fly out the day after and also, I had been intending to meet up with people that day so I could see them before I left. YEAH, OR NOT. I was too sick on Tuesday to do anything but stagger around feeling like my head was going to explode and wishing it would so my throat would stop hurting, and surfing the internet because I couldn't sleep and couldn't concentrate on something as complex as a video game. There was nausea at one stage, and I couldn't tell when I was having hypos, so the combination of hypo plus cotton-wool-stuffed-head lead to me falling on my arse once.

I got sleep on Tuesday night, though, so Wednesday was much less painful. My nose was blocked, but the throat pain had largely stopped and my brain wasn't totally fried anymore, so I was well enough both to spend the day playing tales of the abyss and to be annoyed about having to reschedule my flight. Kaori, the girl who'll be tutoring me for the year and who is going to pick me up from the airport, actually phoned to sort out when I was catching my flight. She seems really nice, I'm looking forward to meeting her. Anyway, Kaori doesn't mind picking me up on Sunday morning and I have orientation at my Japanese uni on Monday, so I'm flying out on Saturday evening and am arriving in Japan at 6.20am local time.

Considering that today I seem to be mostly left with the occasional death rattle, I'm optimistic that I'll be well enough to travel on Saturday.

I had a small farewell thing last Saturday night, which unfortunately a lot of people were too sick or busy to come to-- that's the problem with doing anything in the middle of term. It was good, though, and I had fun, except apparently I seem to attract creepy men? I don't know. I mean, I know that they're part and parcel of going out to bars and clubs, but I wasn't wearing anything particularly low cut or anything, and yet this total sleaze came and tried to pick up Claire and I in B Bar (seriously a sleaze, when we said Claire's bf just wasn't there tonight he was like "AWESOME" and didn't back off at all), and then when we moved to ICBM I was walking through the club following my friends when this drunk guy grabs my wrist really hard and is like "DON'T GOOOO!" while trying to yank me towards him. And I was holding my bag in that hand, so it was hard to pull away. That was KIND OF CREEPY.

Anyway, to break it down, we went to a drinks lounge in Kingston for the early-ish part of the evening. When there were 8 of us left (with four cars between us) we decided to go to ICBM in Civic for dancing. As it got later, another four split, leaving Jen, Dani, Tristan and I. Jen decided she had an insane craving for icecream (it was 1am) so we left to see if the Pancake Parlour was open, but alas, it was just closing. However, Chicken Gourmet was open and had gelatos. So Jen, Dani and I all had gelatos. Mine was vanilla and chocolate and was totally worth it. <3 Then Jen decided she wanted chips... and Tristan, Jen and I ate chicken-salted chips. Making Jen and I the total pigs of the evening. XD It was about 2 or so by that point, and Tristan decided to go home while he was still awake enough to drive. We were all going to split at that point, but when we walked past King O'Malleys there was a band playing, so Jen, Dani and I decided to go in and chat for a while. Which we did. We left after 3 and waited in the car for Jen's mum to come pick her up (wishing for tinted windows, because despite there being heaps of cops around drunk dudes kept walking by and one slapped the back of the car). When I got in it was 4am, and I'd had a good time, so I deem the evening a success.

So I was packing my case on Monday night-- actually that's what I was doing when my throat first started to hurt-- and really, it was NOT EASY. I was totally playing tetris with my stuff, and tetris is not as much fun when you have to physically stuff the objects into the holes. It's TIRING. And um, I totally did get the tetris themesong stuck in my head while I was doing it, because I am that much of a loser. XD;

I had to actually sit on it and break some laws of physics to get the zip closed, not to mention hurt my hand in the process, but I'm thinking it was all a waste of time, because on Tuesday night when dad tried to pick it up he was like "ARGH, WTF" and he tried to measure it and I think it was like 38kg. The baggage allowance is 20kg. *shifty* But I don't understand how it can weigh so much! There was books, sure, but not THAT many and when I took them out it still weighed a ton! A ton that was not completely explained away by my shoes! I guess... who knew clothes could weigh so much? Er, anyway. We've basically decided that I'm going to repack, and take out all the overtly summer clothes, and that my parents will send them by post. Because it's still coolish in Tokyo, and there's not even a judicious cull of my luggage is going to bring it down to half its own weight. XD;

So in conclusion, I have to redo my packing, and I'm flying out on Saturday night now. At least I'll be able to procure the TW finale before I go?
