Okay, I keep meaning to post, so even if I can't make myself get that big post done (it's coming EVENTUALLY, I promise) or do the summary posts on Mirage I've been meaning to now that I've finished the 6 book arc (asdjfklsdjflksd why are these books so INFURIATING?) I figure I should at least make an effort to mention some of the little things.

* There was, very barely, a typhoon last night. I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't been told-- it only JUST hit the coast of Tokyo, which I am not even near, and only JUST classified as a typhoon, so all in all it was pretty disappointing so far as these things go. Not that I wanted a huge disaster, but, well, you're like, ZOMG, TYPHOON, and then it's like... dude, it rained harder than this two weeks ago, and it was DEFINITELY windier in April.

* I got like, 2 hours sleep last night. WHOO. I can't even figure out why I'm not asleep. I slept for an hour or two and then woke up at 1.30 am. I haven't been tired since. Very weird. Maybe I inadvertently overdid the caffeine. I always forget how sensitive I am to state-altering drugs like alcohol and caffeine. (I had a small can of ice latte in the morning on the way to work, an ice coffee in the afternoon at a cafe, and then, without thinking, a pepsi nex with dinner. While I was drinking it it was a little like, FUCK, THIS HAS CAFFEINE T___T because I totally didn't think, but the damage was done.) At least I don't have to get up tomorrow, though...

* I do need to go to the library at some time and actually do my annotated bibliography, however. It's due in 9 days and I haven't really started. To be honest I'm kind of freaking out because Kaori is overseas and there's no one to edit it even assuming I DO manage to work up the energy to haul my lazy carcass to the library which, frankly, is currently not looking very likely. God damn, I can't afford to fail this assessment.

* If only the fact I got straight As last semester actually COUNTED towards my transcript. Le sigh. Still, I can feel smug about getting 100 for my Kanji class and 96 for Grammar.

* FINALLY went to Shinjuku today on way back from Ikebukuro, since I pass through anyhow. Needed to pick my shoes up from repair, they'd been sitting there 12 days. Also bought scales, as am currently on a diet; discovered when given access to scales at hotels that I'd put on a heap of weight and gone out of the healthy weight range. stupid parfaits and huge Japanese servings. Anyone who tells you Japanese servings are small LIES. LIES LIKE A RUG. It makes me sad in my soul when I see something the size I WANT to eat, and then it says "only for children up to the age of 12" and I am like, YOU KNOW, AT LEAST MCDONALDS LETS YOU HAVE A HAPPY MEAL IF YOU WANT ONE. >( Not that I want McDonalds. BUT.

* Speaking of diet I am literally living on: bran/blueberry bars, milk, apple juice, tuna-mayo onigiri, banana, spaghetti bolognese. With occasional other stuff for variety. I bought carrots today and ate one while I was reading. I was getting a bit alarmed about my vegetable intake, since I'm fine for calcium and fruit but vegetables... uh. yeah. Partially the previously mentioned is dieting, but it's also laziness, because it means I don't have to think of what to get or expend too much effort/money to get it. XD;

* I also went to Kinokuniya. I should not be given access to bookstores, especially not Japanese ones; I just stay there and idle away lots of time ogling the shiny without ever making decisions on whether I want to part with my precious monies. But this is my first PROPER encounter with Kinokuniya in Shinjuku. I've been there multiple times before, but I was always sort of intimidated by it and just did a quick in-and-out job for textbooks and the like. This time I decided (after looking at the English textbooks for one of my students) I was going to gaze upon the Mirage of Blaze books and see if they had any of the later volumes so that I might avoid buying them off Amazon. This was quite an adventure, and is deserving of an LJ-cut.

The bookstore is 6 stories; the top story is for textbooks and foreign language books, mostly English, but the rest of the store is vaguely mystifying to me, since I haven't been there much. But I thought I'd check out what books they had in stock, and I was looking at the floor guide, and I went with fiction, since it SEEMED the most obvious choice, but I waffled around the floor for a while being confused and unable to find the Cobalt section until I finally spied a computer. Eventually the computer rendered unto me the location of the Mirage books, which was... in the comic section on floor 1!

Me: That's... kind of hilariously insulting. Like they've specifically been labelled "Pulp novels". XDDD

So I go down there, and sure enough, there is a fairly large section of books near the comics, probably fairly accurately designated as a pulp section. *g* And I found Mirage of Blaze. And, well.

Me: ..................... I, uh. Think I have found Kinokuniya's unexpectedly vast collection of gay porno books!

For serious, you only had to glance at all the covers of boys kissing/nearly kissing/in various compromising positions prominently aligned.

Which was kind of funny by itself, but what made this SUPER LOLARIOUS was the fact that there was a specific BL publisher-- like, Cobalt publishes BL, but not just BL-- which had a very, very pink motiff going on with its covers. Like, just in case you haven't quite figured out how gay this is from the guys kissing, we made it super easy for you to tell.

And-- this was the bit that made me crack up laughing-- to make really, SUPER sure you can't possibly miss how incredibly gay these books are, some of them are FREAKING SPARKLY. I shit you not, full on fucking like... My Little Pony or Barbies or, you know, something else pink and holographically sparkly that a 7 year old girl might own. Except gay porn.

*cries with laughter* ILU JAPAN, NEVER CHANGE. I kind of wanted to buy it just for the gay sparkles. I don't even know what it's about, other than gayness and probably makeouts, of a gay and sparkly pink nature. Maybe I will buy it when I'm in Shinjuku next just for the hell of it.

Also the GanGan comics were under "Square Enix". Like, pfft, whatever, everyone KNOWS GanGan is owned by Squeenix, let's cut out the middleman!

* Oh yeah, you know that meme, the one with the candid photos. This is not COMPLETELY candid because I can't move my laptop screen so I kind of had to boost myself up to actually be in the webcam's view and not cut off below the eyes, but you know, still messy hair and pjs and so forth.

... I need a hair cut. <<;

Kinokuniya is pretty amazing, but if you haven't been, I recommend the Musashi-Sakai Book-off! So cheap and soooo good :D I dunno about the BL section, tho, good luck :P

So do I! It's on my playlist for Mirage of Blaze, which I have been listening to a lot lately. XD;

Yeah, the reason for that is a mixture between laziness about taking/uploading photos, and hating the way I look in them. For some reason when I hit the age of about 14 I very suddenly and mysteriously became unphotogenic. It's very unusual for me to be able to have my photo taken and not look completely hideous. Ironically, despite the graininess, this is one of the better photos of me as an adult-- it actually looks like me, for better or worse. *g*

Although: I will confess there are a number here. First page is old... law ball is still about 3 years ago, but I think some of the later pics are from last year.

That's because I only ever upload the good pictures. *g* The vast majority turn out really bad for no reason I can fathom. But thank you!

Well, I'm a law student. Every faculty at my university has an annual ball-- I've never been to the Asian Studies Ball, though, and I only went to the Law Ball in first year. They're expensive to buy tickets for, so if none of my friends are going I don't bother.
