Feb. 6th, 2009 11:33 pmI am SUCH a procrastinator when it comes to LJ posting. *shifty look* Anyway, I've been meaning all week to make a post just to let everyone know I'm still alive, having got the RESEARCH PAPER OF DOOOOOOM handed in on time-- I don't know yet whether I've passed, but I'm cheerfully ignoring the existence of the entire thing until such time as it becomes relevant again. It's like this enormous blight has lifted from my life. Even before the two weeks of panic and stress trying to get it done to the exclusion of everything I could afford to exclude, it's been hanging over me as distant future dread for the past year, so there's something immensely freeing in knowing that for better or worse the dratted thing is DONE. Even if I do have to resubmit it.
So how have I been spending this week since I won my hard-earned freedom, you ask? Well, uh, not all that TERRIBLY freely, because I still have classes, and I had a paper due on Tuesday, and work on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights... but I love my jobs, so that's okay. And class is mostly being pretty interesting right now, because we're studying the Japanese constitution. I am like a ray of sunshine!
Plus, for the first time in ages, I'm not in a position where I have to be careful about my finances. 4/5 of the scholarship money got dropped into my bank account all in one big burst in the middle of my frantic work on the paper, and I'm only here for another 3 weeks. (WAH. ;___; DUN WANNA LEAVE.) When I go back to Australia, I've got debts to my family but I've still got a job there, some savings left in my Australian account, and no bills to pay. Which means I've got a fair amount of Japanese yen to deal with shipping etc, and then some to spare.
So, as I decided as incentive while I was working on my paper, as a reward to myself for finishing it on time, I bought myself an Xbox360. :D The Xbox came with Last Remnant. Then I got Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey to go with it.
... What? *looks shifty*
Of course the downside to all of this is that I still have to get everything back to Australia, but if necessary I can cop a pretty high shipping fee, so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Meanwhile, I am continuing to bask in my freeeeedom, mostly by playing Tales of Hearts (which is SUPER FUN and I'm going to be very sad if it doesn't port to English, although I have to say the chances don't look good), but also with interludes for typing up/editing the parts of Boyband!X I hand wrote while
_leareth and I were travelling Japan, reading in the bath (I'm halfway through The Graveyard Book right now), and translating.
Also, I realised what an undeniable geek I am when I found myself saying, "Yay! Now I have time to study kanji again!" *facepalm*
Next entry could be about said travels around Japan, if I ever get my act into gear. Alternatively, it could be a random itemised list of things I have acquired recently and why these things are cool (eg: world dictionary of mythology by culture, acquired from combini for 500 yen), just because.
