Jul. 14th, 2009 07:37 pmSo despite my resolve to get back into posting, I haven't posted at all since the beginning of the holidays. orz A fair amount has happened in this space of time:
* I finished the Star Trek XI WiP in that last post, marking the first fic I've actually FINISHED (BBX doesn't count, it's a WiP even if I'm posting it as it goes) since June of last year. Tragically I've still got 3 5000 word one-shot WiPs. I mean, you'd think once I'm that far I'd just get the fuck on with it, but apparently not; my ability to finish the things I start has suffered a lot over the past year or so.
* Dog had her operation. She's okay, healing up pretty well even though she has five sets of stitches all over her chest and stomach. She had these fatty tumours that weren't malignant but were growing and were starting to get in her way.
* Have totally fucked up my sleeping pattern. Well, not as totally as this time last year in Japan when I was sleeping from like 3pm-8pm, but I am going to bed at 6-7am or so every morning, which is pretty fail, especially since I have to go back to uni next week. orz Today I even missed an appointment I had at THREE IN THE AFTERNOON because I slept in, which is not cool. Most of the time I manage to function overall despite extensive fail at the details, but ugh.
* On the topic of uni, having a bit of a timetable dilemma. Mum insists I do a full subject load. I was originally intending to only do 3 subjects (2 Japanese, 1 Law) and do the international negotiation competition in Japan in December. Which I am still planning to do, but I won't know if I'm in the team until about October, which is obviously too late for signing up for another subject if I'm not. I have a fairly high chance of getting in, but mum is not convinced by that argument. Also, I think she's just fundamentally opposed to me having free time or something. So now I need to find another law subject. But I hate about 80% of the courses they're offering that I haven't done already, and the other 20% don't fit into my timetable well. Labour Law outright clashes with Equity, which I have to do. Evidence is a final year subject which I COULD do, but which everyone says DON'T DO IT AT THE SAME TIME AS EQUITY, YOU'LL DIE, so I think it would be unwise. Family Law is the one I'm leaning towards at the moment... the problem is that I'd have six hours of lectures in a row on Tuesdays which is a bit feral. Sigh. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and deal with it; it might not be fun but I'm probably at least capable of it.
Also, I'm going to have problems with my work shift AGAIN. Fucking uni timetables. Sigh.
* On a completely different not, I have almost finished FFXII. Actually, I once again almost did that thing where I beat the final boss by accident, except I in fact realised it was the final boss on his final form (when there wasn't a HP bar I got suspicious) and also, he killed me. Honestly if I'd known going in that was the final boss I would have held off-- aside from all the sidequests I hadn't done yet, I knew lv 46 was too low for a final boss. So now I'm spending copious hours on said sidequests. I think I'm going to end up spending double to triple the amount of time on sidequests as I did on the plot. orz
* Back to Star Trek and fics, I have taken temporary leave of what little sanity I may once have possessed and have signed up for
startrekbigbang. This is, for the record, ALL
lazulisong'S FAULT AND I WILL HAUNT HER TO THE GRAVE. >:| The really depressing bit is that the minimum limit is 15K, but my fic is going to be so much longer than that that it's not even funny. I am apparently INCAPABLE of short. My idea of a short one-shot is like 3000-10000 words. Tell me to write something big and you get fucking BOYBAND!X. Or the epic tale of James Tiberius Kirk, in this case. orz When I started planning it I thought the whole thing, being in three distinct parts, would be 50K. Which was already big. Now I've started writing part i and I think it'll easily be 50K by ITSELF. The deadline is two months from now. Thankfully each part will stand by itself so I might just do the first part for Big Bang and say it's a trilogy. Wah. This also saves me from stressing out about the third part, which will actually require an action plot and at the moment my plan basically consists of "??? PROFIT?". Action plots are a lot harder for me than character or humour driven things, and if I'm going to write this damn much I want it to actually be as good as I can make it, so anything that'll let me avoid rushing it and doing a subpar job can only be good. Even if this does end up hanging over my head for years like BBX because of it. <<;
* Directly connected to the above point, I have been listening to Folie a Deux on repeat. It's interesting to note that it's one of those albums where the more I listen to it the more I up the song ratings in iTunes. Some songs the more I listen to them, the more bland they start to sound as I get sick of them, but other artists work the other way around where I'm a bit meh the first time I hear it and it grows on me like fungus with each subsequent
listen.
* ... I really am going to have to get a Star Trek XI icon.
