You know, I always read those amusing tales of conversations with co-workers on other people's journals with interest, but until tonight-- when relaying a conversation I'd just had over IM-- I never thought about the fact that I myself have some pretty funny encounters with co-workers and patients at my job as a receptionist.

The funniest and most random of these, including tonight's, tend to happen with the pathology guy, who has been doing the paths most weeks since I started working here in 2002.

Context: I usually have a uniform. Also, I usually have my hair pulled back in a ponytail because I'm lazy. Today, however, my hair is in bunches and I'm wearing plain clothes, having come straight from class. (Also, a button came off my work-shirt.)

PG: *gestures* You... what...?
Me: ... Oh, the uniform? I came straight from class again.
PG: No, your hair, you don't usually wear it like that.
Me: I don't? Huh. I swear I've worn it like this before... Why, does it look weird?
PG: No, it looks good, just... different.
(Thus follows short conversation about hair)
PG: But anyway, couldn't you take your uniform with you to class?
Me: Yeah, but I mean, I came LITERALLY straight from class. Like, I left class early. Possibly there was some slight bending of speed limits involved. Because my law class goes from 4 to 5, and I can't be in both Civic and Woden at 5pm.
PG: Well, you COULD...
Me: By inventing teleportation?
PG: You could have a clone. Or a robot.
Me: An evil twin!
PG: I didn't say it had to be evil... but I like that idea.
Me: It'd have a goatee.
PG: ... I don't like THAT idea.
Me: But where should I send the evil twin? Would I stay at uni and send it here? That might end in tears.
PG: Maybe you ARE the evil twin.
Me: Maybe I am. Maybe that's what the hair is about.
PG: And the uniform. You're in disguise! Just hiding the paste-on goatee.
Me: Or maybe the usual me is the evil one. Maybe I've been the evil twin ALL ALONG.
PG: ... MIND GAMES.
Me: You'll never know.
PG: I wouldn't say NEVER. If I get some good surveillence...
Me: But how will you tell them apart? Anyway, maybe they both have good days and evil days.
PG: Doesn't that defeat the point of having an evil twin?
Me: Perhaps. MAYBE they're a hive mind.
PG: So there's more of them!
Me: AN ARMY OF CLONES.
PG: Now that's a nice idea.

In other news, I am probably not dying of swine flu. Or rather. I am not dying. And it may or may not be swine flu? IDK. It's not worth getting the test because they're so far backlogged that I think I'd be better by the time the results came through and it's already spread so much that we're kind of beyond the quarantine stage. Plus in most cases it's pretty mild unless you have an underlying condition. Which I do-- diabetes-- but even if this is swine flu it's not distressing me any more than my usual response to flu. Just more coughing and fever (which is mild on a thermometer but feels pretty lousy) and less sore throats and blocked noses than usual. I am using a lot of the anti-bacterial stuff while here at work and trying not to cough. Which isn't so bad; I'm getting better anyway. (I came down with whatever it is on Saturday, and only missed a few classes on Tuesday; could be worse.)

I could continue this entry with stories of my university parking woes, or the osteopath who is fixing the right half of my body (it is functionally shorter than the left because of muscle compression and that screws up EVERYTHING, trust me), or the saga of my big bang fic which is now 13,000 words long and still only in chapter 1. However, I've just got some more filing to do, not to mention I'm getting fatigued writing this and I'm sure people are getting fatigued reading it. Besides, if I don't post it now it'll sit around forever as an unfinished draft until it is erased by the annuls of time. (I speak from long experience of all the posts that has happened to.) So I am just going to post it now. Really.

OKAY BACK TO FILING myheadhurts.
