tammaiyaI have to say, flist: today has sucked. Actually, yesterday sucked too. Tomorrow is also scheduled to suck. I don't really want to talk about it that much, but here's a brief summary:
* Got 57 on my 40% Family Law assignment. Ouch. Lowest mark to count all degree.
* Had another family law assignment due this afternoon. Got it done, just. There was this whole thing with the due date... but ugh, nvm, done now.
* My dad was admitted to hospital yesterday. He's got blood clots in his lungs. I think they should be able to treat it and everything, but he'll have to go on warfarin for at least the next 6 months which means weekly blood tests. He'll probably have to stop drinking, too. Anyway, at this stage he'll probably be in hospital until Tuesday.
* The translation was due today. I'm not sure if I'm happy with it and between work and the assignment I was pushing for time, but it's submitted. Hopefully it all went through properly and I didn't miss anything.
* Despite being my class-free day, tomorrow is looking to be so insanely busy that it just makes me tired thinking about it. It's like, Tai-chi, Endocrinologist, meeting with lecturer about research assistant work, meeting with team members about division of labour for the arbitration competition, and somewhere in there I've got to fit a blood test, dropping off a contract at work and visiting dad in hospital. I want a break from life. Sigh.
Which is why now seems like a good time for a current OTPs meme! Sorted by level of obscurity/popularity. I have other pairings I would call OTPs due to my overall history with them, but they're not included on the list due to current lack of obsession. Or just not springing to mind, whatever.
Obscure OTPs: Ranges from "nobody knows or cares but me because the canon only exists in Japanese!" to "There's only a handful of fic for this, but it deserves so much more!"
* Abel/Cain, from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & Sword of Light. Actually, screw the game, read the manga; it's fun (if infuriating) in terms of gameplay but there's almost NO character development, whereas the manga is really sweet and has much more of a plot. Also, Abel/Cain is basically canon, I'm not even kidding. It's pretty hard to explain most of Cain's behaviour away without him being in love with Abel. ... Unfortunately only the first 2 volumes are scanlated and there aren't even any raws. I actually had to go buy this second hand from Book Off while I was in Japan. orz
* Most of my Tales pairings (and OT3s). Especially the ones from Japan-only Tales, like Hisui/Shing/Kohak (Hearts). Stahn/Rutee/Leon (Destiny) also counts because the original is so old and the remake is much better but again, only Japanese. Despite Abyss being out in English, the English internet continues to deny me Guy/Luke, Guy/Luke/Tear and Jade/Dist. I suspect such will be the same when I go looking for Yuri/Flynn and Rita/Estelle. Dammit.
* Shin/Yankumi, Gokusen drama-verse. There is some fic, but really not much.
* Cecil/Kain, FFIV. I almost put this in category 2, but have YOU tried to find FFIV fic lately?
* Sawaki/Kei, Moyashimon. I gave up reading the manga because it's too much effort raw and I don't care enough about things other than Kei, especially since I know he'll never get the boy because it's a Seinen manga, but I love him forever.
* Kagami/Tendou, Kamen Rider Kabuto. Yes, I know it's a Japanese children's tokushu show. THAT DOESN'T MATTER, because it's really a shiny shoujo in disguise devoted to the epic love of Kagami and Tendou. More people should watch it so more people will know and care about it!
* Meruvis/Asad, Luo Tao/Liu, Chrodechild/Fredegund, & Jale/Hero/Marica, Suikoden Tierkreis. I had such massive love for the characters in that game, I cannot even begin to explain. And this one came out in English, even!
OTPs that are reasonably well known, but don't have HUGE fandoms
* Naoe/Takaya, Mirage of Blaze
* Seishirou/Subaru & Fuuma/Kamui, X
* Sephiroth/Cloud, FFVII
* Riku/Sora, Riku/Sora/Kairi & Roxas/Axel (I am beginning to teeter towards Roxas/Axel/Xion, damn KH and its OT3s), Kingdom Hearts
* Edgeworth/Phoenix, Phoenix Wright (sdfjklsdf I played the Edgeworth game recently, it just made me crave them all over again)
* Roy/Ed, FMA.
OTPs that have hundreds of thousands of words of fic, but could always use more!!
* Spock/Kirk, Star Trek XI
* Frank/Gerard, bandom
* Ray K/Fraser, due South
* Clark/Lex, Smallville (wouldn't watch the canon if you paid me- well, maybe, if you paid me enough- but has some great fics)
OTPs that I love but are so perfect in canon that I don't even need fic! (but I'll take it if it's going...): AKA, basically the shoujo ships.
* Ren/Kyouko, Skip Beat! <3 (well, assuming I get the ending I'm rooting for, but it's looking pretty promising.)
* Chuck/Blair & Rufus/Lily, Gossip Girl
* Chester/Arche, Tales of Phantasia
* Tsukasa/Tsukushi, HanaDan
* Shang/Mulan, Mulan
* Darcy/Elizabeth, Pride&Prejudice
* Gilbert/Anne, Anne of Green Gables
* Tony/Ziva, NCIS (okay, the perfect label is a bit of an overstatement here, but somehow I'm more interested in canon moments than in searching out fic)
Chiaki/Nodame might have made it... until the manga ending. What the shit WAS that?!
(Finally, fandoms of honorable mention in which I have OTPs and I did think about but was not currently in the mood enough to bother listing: Saiunkoku, Harry Potter, SGA, Merlin, FFXII, Odin Sphere, Hanakimi, Arashi, Tactics, Weiss Kreuz, Ouran Host Club, Hikaru no Go, Naruto, Prince of Tennis, Gundam Wing, Avatar.)
Anyway, you'll notice a trend. This is because generally only het pairings are done that perfectly, and I usually only ship them strongly when they're done that perfectly. Go figure!
OKAY, YES, I WAS BORED, SUE ME. The sad thing is I know that some point after hitting send, I'll be like, OH, I FORGOT (FANDOM), DAMMIT.
