I'll make a real post soon but basically I just needed to vent before I exploded, since I've been running into these particular things a LOT in this fandom:
* DJSKLFJSDL DON'T REFER TO GUYS AS "THE MALE", IT MAKES IT SOUND LIKE A NATURE DOCUMENTARY!!!!
* Epithets are to be used sparingly unless you're writing from someone's POV and they always call a particular person by their title. Or "jackass". Whatever. I don't care, so long as there's a reason, but referring to people by their hair colour all the time drives me BONKERS, especially if you MAKE UP A WORD to describe it! SILVERET IS NOT A WORD!!!111
* Drug and span CAN be used as verbs, but they're not past tense and they bear no relationship whatsoever to drag or spin.
... And then there was some content stuff that was just scarring, but that exists in any fandom so never mind that. The really frustrating thing is when you've got fics which are otherwise really good and then they just have these quirks that make me want to tear my hair out. Worse, it's accumulative, so each fic I read with that stuff in it the twitch reflex gets WORSE.
