Oct. 6th, 2003 01:34 amSo how goes my life? Thought I may as well do a moderately large update filled with ramble, as it is 1.35 am on what is now a Monday morning and I'll be going to Sydney on Tuesday. Lucky, LUCKY me. [/sarcasm]
Rohan's Lemmings Revolution download finished last night at an impressive 300 and something mb, and my Chrono Cross Disc 2 download finished at 400 and something some time between 3 and 7. Not that long after 3, I'd say, because it was down to under an hour left when I went to bed.
I've watched more tv in the past 2 days than I usually do in the average... I don't know, fortnight? month? Something along those lines. I just don't LIKE tv, generally. I feel like I'm wasting my life. Probably because I never remember when series are on, and I get unhealthily attached and then depressed when I continually miss episodes. Also because my parents just watch tv so much, and I hate it. But anyway. Back to my watching of tv. Watched 10 Things I Hate About You again, and MAN, I love that film to tiny little pieces. Heath Ledger! His Australian accent! I really noticed that his accent WAS Australian, for once, which being an Australian myself I find happens rarely. Afterwards, I watched parts of the taped episode of the Scarlet Pimpernel, and that Catherine Hepburn movie about Mary Queen of Scots. I remember, I saw that film 2 years ago in Sydney, when the history gerbils were doing the tudors. Mum and I watched it, and Grandpa fell asleep in his chair. It ended at 2 am... don't know why I recall that, but whichever way.
Still love Final Fantasy Tactics into little pieces, which is largely why I didn't go to bed until 3. This morning got out of bed at 12.10, was disgusted with self for sleeping in. Didn't get to use the computer, however, as bloody Rohan was playing Lemmings. *rolls eyes* So, bereft of a computer. Shock, horror! Makes me wonder how I ever survived in those days when I had to share the computer with Rohan ALL THE TIME. Maybe I was a more normal and less obsessive human being, in those days. That's probably it.
So, computer-less (poor me), I nicked off with Ro's guitar again and started learning the harder version of House of the Rising Sun, with the moving bassline. Fingers are almost completely de-sensitised. Excellent.
In my computer deprived state, I also started reading Small Gods and occasionally doing knitting. I would just like to stress that I could not knit my way out of a paper bag. Actually, wait- if it was quantity I needed, sure. Quality? You have GOT to be joking. I find it soothing, though, and it makes mum happy, so there you go. Being the usual definition of the Anti-Daughter, it's probably good that I'm doing something daugher-like.
Which reminds me, I was talking to my mother about the Scottish language last night. Both she and my older sister Ceilidh had scottish accents as children, and mum could speak Scottish, as she said Granny and my great-grandmother used to speak it around the house. I asked her why she lost it, and she said that she went to school and she learnt pretty quickly to speak without the Scottish accent. Kids are cruel. I also asked her if she could still speak Scottish, and if she could slip into a Scottish accent, so she taught me a Scottish phrase:
"Tis a brae, bricht moonlicht nicht the nicht, och aye."
(It's a bright, beautiful moonlit night tonight, yes indeed.)
I wish I could speak Scottish. It'd have been nice if Gran could have taught me, but if wishes were wings, pigs would fly. And maybe I'd still have at least one grandparent.
Back to today (er, yesterday), though. Rohan eventually vacated the computer several hours later, but I didn't stay on for long, as Parent Trap came on. Off I went to watch that. Straight after was Notting Hill. I LOVE that movie. Hence, have watched more tv in the past 2 days- etc, you get the point.
I washed my hair earlier, and it wasn't until then that I realised the hairdresser had cut off more than I had thought. My hand shot right past the end of my hair, expecting there to be more. As it turns out, I suspect I've lost a good 2 or 3 inches. Damn those split ends.
Am now downloading Chrono Cross disk 1, and before anyone gives me strange looks for going out of order, I had actually started downloading it from a server last holidays. Several months later, THAT download is up to 91%. *twitch* Disk 2, from a different place, finished in 2 nights. Hence, I went "Bugger THAT, who cares about 91%?" and have started on a new download of disk 1, which should probably finish in less time than that last 9% would take and be infinitely more satisfying all around.
As previously mentioned, I'm going off to Sydney from Tuesday until Saturday, and await it with immense excitement. Oh, what a thrill it shall be. Hooray. (For the record, more sarcasm) We'll be staying in my Grandpa's house, and mum will be helping her siblings clean up 30-40 years of accumulated junk. Pa's been dead for maybe a month or two; it doesn't feel real yet, and I don't want it to. I used to love going to Sydney to see Grandpa, but now it feels like nothing so much as a prison sentence. Yippdeedoo.
Wasn't quite sure what to do with Adrian, but Ji's strokes of brilliance rescued me. Ade is going on a field trip with Rincewind's class to 4 Ecks. Discworld readers, do you see the irony? Anyway. At least ONE of us will be happy. Adrian's dreams of 4 Ecks come true- he'd better make the most of it.
Buggered if I know how they'll get there, but whatever. Magic, or... something...
Am going to take such glorious pastimes as HOMEWORK to Sydney with me. That will be bucketloads of fun, obviously. Haven't started my English oral, dread touching it with a 10 foot pole, have decided I'm just going to say, "Shakespeare liked occult stuff because it was a good plot device and people were more gullible in those days due to an unfortunate lack of televisions and the like. Thank you." *sits down*
Excellent.
At least I'm going on the Thursday of week 2, though. My name didn't get put in the hat, so I got put last or thereabouts. Feel sorry for the unlucky sods on the first day. God must love me after all, though I can't exactly fathom why. *waves* Er, sorry God! Thanks, and all that!
Will also get to take Gamecube and Playstation to Sydney, which is a plus. Don't know how much I'll play them, however, as I envision overwhelming tides of guilt shall attack. Guilt along the lines of "I'm sitting in the middle of the kitchen playing electronic games while my relatives clean my recently deceased grandfather's house and I REALLY ought to be doing homework. Erm."
So, yes. Whatever.
This has been a good update, all things considered. I've been cutting back on LJ posts, recently. A whole lot of I-can't-be-bothered, which is a bit sad. Oh well.
Should go to bed, methinks.
Edit: Would just like to add that it is now 2.10. So that entry took about 40 minutes to write. How... miserable. *sigh*

Date: 2003-10-06 08:04 am (UTC)And I'll attempt to enjoy Sydney- I go there an awful lot, and it isn't exactly a holiday, but I'll do my best. *smile*
Thanks, Jammie.
